epileptic seizure warning
Is there any way to disable the giant flashing black and white video on the main page before we log in? Asking for a friend.
This type of UX design can literally kill people at random. And on top of that, it doesn't even make the models look good. Just fix it the cheap and easy and obvious way.
And maybe next time you launch a new marketing campaign, consider displaying the features of the content in a way that actually gives your users time to appreciate them. Steadly lighting. Sustained shots. Focus on one element at a time. Basically advertising 101. I don't understand why you decided this cacophonic nightmare needed to be the world's first introduction to Victoria 9 and, for some users, your storefront as a whole.
TL;DR: Blinking a light on and off under your model's chin while their face fills the whole screen like this isn't just dangerous, it's also bad marketing.
Comments
I have mine set to go directly to the store rather than to that main page, so I never see it.
I agree 100% and hope that there's a work around. Thankfully, I don't have a seizure disorder, but I do have severe fibromyalgia which leads to some bad light sensitivities. Those flashing images are literally painful for me to look at. My eyes will spasm then cause activation of my temporal muscle trigger points. I try my best to look away, and click off it as fast as I can-but it's not easy.
For someone with seizures the launch page could be VERY dangerous. I'm sure it's not a good thing for migraine sufferers either.
Screw workarounds, I really despise them as they allow lazy developers to ignore the actual problem!
It's better if they have an actual solution instead, lazy devs rarely fix an issue if there's a workaround, the issue with them is that it doesn't address the actual bug in the code, and like most bugs, it's usually connected to other functions that the code relies upon, so that same bug may pop up where you don't want it later down the line!
I'm speaking in general about lazy devs, not singling out Daz…
EDIT: As far as a solution goes, Daz should simply delete the offending video and be done with it!
Um, developers aren't the ones picking the videos and rendering them, that's marketing (or the equivalent if there isn't a marketing team).
I was talking specifically about workarounds more than anything else, and yeah, marketing should take the video down!
Unless you weren't addressing my comment, please ignore!
That's pretty weird... I just looked at it... not sure why they'd choose that style... especially the shaky-cam effect... like I get that would make sense for sporting goods or off-road vehicle accessories... but I generally don't use DS while under artillery fire or being shaken violently.
I'm glad I just go straight to the store or forums.
But stuff like that... I don't ask why anymore...
My saved link is straight to the forums.
I was going to ask "What giant flashy thing" then I went to the home page and noticed there was a "play" button on the imbedded video.
I use Firefox and have the "Autoplay" setting set to "Default for all websites: BLOCK AUDIO AND VIDEO". Hopefully other browsers will have a similar setting. That should make general browsing safer for people sensitive to the dancing head-shaker nonsense.
Yikes! That's pretty bad. I agree they should get rid of it.
Well gee now I feel a bit dumb for not thinking about that ( Slaps forehead) Thanks for pointing it out!
I just went and checked it out and I personally don't see anything wrong with it. Yeah, I don't see the home page when I come to DAZ since my bookmark is to the forums also. I would think if a person is eplileptic, then it's up to them to try to avoid things that might trigger a reaction, not everyone else.
Unless, of course, you are visiting it for the first time and don't know that it is epileptic inducing and it causes a siezure. This is why most professional businesses do not use flashing blinking garbage on their pages because they are well aware of the possibility of inducing siezures.
I just looked at it and agree it should go
I suffer from migraines and strobing lights can trigger events, along with white screens, or the old 'K-Mart' blue-strobe specials lights.
That herky-jerky effect distracted me from being able to enjoy what the artists had done and to appreciate what was being communicated.
We have flagged this up to Daz.
if you have issues like that, you should really be blocking autoplay in your browsers. Even gifs wont play in my browser without me clickin it first.
How would somebody like my late mom would know exactly where to avoid if she'd never been to a site before. Or if she'd been on the site a thousand times and then one day logs on and this blares on the screen and next thing she knows she's on the floor? Yes, she knew when to avoid some things like in a movie if she could tell it was coming, but then there were times that were completely left field, like this moment would have been, and it shouldn't be on folks who suffer from this to get somebody else to check everything they do before they do it to ensure it's safe. Changing this doesn't hurt anybody, but not changing it could. We need to get away from this if it doesn't affect me it's not a big deal mentality and think of others. Sorry for being a little short here but when I see that mindset it just irritates me. Like do I miss eating peanuts on a plane? Absolutely, but you know what, I'm fine with it if it means somebody else could walk onto that plane and not worry about having a major reaction.
Like captions in movies and video games. "It doesn't affect me so why should they spend money making captions instead of on other stuff?"

Thank you, that's great to hear.
I find it sickening that some blame the sufferers, and not the idiots that made the video
So those people should just not use the internet???
The video fails the Harding Test (tests for photosensitive epilepsy issues). This is easy to prove if you search for "PEAT Harding test", University of Maryland, made a while back, still works, it's just not for commerical usage.
I didn't need the test to know, let's just say that.
Thank you. I know it's easy enough to link past it, and that people like me with issues should just "deal with it". But as an over all visual experience it's not appealing.

Sorry. Don't mean to make light of a serious situation, but your post made me think of this old show.
Is this the best course of action due to a lack of response or action?
Want to know how to block autoplay?
Brave - brave://settings/content/autoplay
Chrome - chrome://flags/#autoplay-policy
Firefox - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/block-autoplay
Edge - https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/newmsn/forum/all/how-to-enable-or-disable-media-autoplay-in/c0aacdb5-10bc-485b-b40e-bdcbeb718257
Since afaik no video is allowed to auto play on a product page or forum it will only effect the front page that is autoplaying anyway.
Thanks. I just linked to the main shopping page to spare my eyeballs. But I'll keep this tidbit incase I need it in the future
Those jerk-cuts (instant zoom) give me motion sickness. Been seeing them in a lot of places lately. And yeah, the entire video is terrible. And autoplay video can just die.
Thanks, Cris; but that has been nearly a week ago and it is still in use. It poses a real problem for some and DAZ really should be more sensitive to the needs of others.
It's sliiightly on the ugly side of things, hard on the eyes too. Probably not something that should be the very first thing anyone encounters as Daz promotion.
