Pointing smart content to a different directory

I did a clean install of Win 10 yesterday and backed up my content to my external hard drive. I want to keep it there because the folder has become extremely large and I'd rather keep it off my main HD. I went to content manager and directed it to the folder location. Content libary reads everything, but smart content does not. I was wondering if I could change where smart content loads the files from.

If you find an item in the Products lists in the Content Library pane you should be able to right-click on it and in the menu there will be a sub-menu related to Database (DS is rendering so I can't check the exact label), then an edit base paths option. That opens a dialogue in which you can select the new base path and tell it to update all items using the same old base path, which should fix your database.
