...well not sure about software based unless it is with Google and/or the IM uninstaller/installer as those would be the only likely suspects.  Likely not W7 as that's been reliable me for over a decade and don't have the funds right now to upgrade the system for 11. (about 920$ which is 80% of my monthly income).

Went though diagnostics after the IM situation and nothing out of sorts on the boot drive.  If it's the MB, well hopefully it hangs in there until I can get the components for the upgrade (which includes W11 Pro).

Google and Yandex are the two best.

...I've been using Google as a search engine ever since I got my first notebook and a a Gmail account for just as long.  Had FF as my original browser, but with each update it began to bloat badly during a session and slow down  so I dumped it  for Chrome. (never bothered with IE as its security was like having a screen door on the ISS)   I do have a very good AV and firewall so I may just tough it out and stay with Chrome  until I can do the W11 upgrade.

I use chrome, but I don't know why exactly?

I couldn't stay up to finish watching a ball game last night.  Actually my iPad battery died and I don't have a long enough working cable to charge it from my bed.  Also my computer won't charge it,

Yep, it was really hard to tell whether the Fluffs or the Ruffs played better.

There is a big abyss between me wanting to do something and me actually doing it.  I can't find the bridge to cross!

Tickled my funny bone a bit too.  Absurdity is sometimes a good way to get points across.

    --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---

I avoid organized, dogmatic religions but I've whittled my philosophical thoughts down to the concepts & teachings put forward by Gautauma  Siddhartha (The Buddha) & Roger Penrose.surprise (They're not a teamcheeky)

    Gautauma Siddhartha (The Buddha)https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Buddha

Yeah, yeah, modern Buddhism like all evolved organized religions has a lot of baggage, but if you strip out their rituals & dogma, and get back to the original teachings, a lot of religions rise from similar ideas.

    Sir Roger Penrose:    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roger_Penrose

Yeah, yeah, Penrose's CCC theory has its detractors, but I like it because I thought of it myself, independently.  And after I found his lectures on-line (and later, his books), to have such a clever guy as Sir Roger Penrose essentially explain my own idea to me in mathematical detail, was very heady!**

If you're not familiar with Roger Penrose, just look him up.   A most interesting fellow.yes

(viewing hint: the music is somewhat overpowering, turn down the volume and turn on closed captioning)

** The only comparable thing more personal, was the time, 40 years ago, in college, when I attended essentially a private lecture about the variability of the Cosmolological Constant, given by visiting guest Paul Dirac.  Just 5 or 6 people gathered around a lunch table, with a portable, insufficiently large, blackboard wheeled in for the ad-hoc lecture.  Went right over my head at the time, and took me 30 years to understand.  But when I saw the hastilly scrawled notice on the Student Center bulletin board I knew it was an opportunity for this smalltown college student to meet one of the greatest physicists ever, I knew I'd never forget it.  Yeah, yeah, I forgot the details of the mathematics, but I remember the occasion.

Two things that are compliants today... both about my stupid dentist.

First-"HellothismessageisforVictorconfirmingyourappointmentattheofficeofDoctorMorgotheDestroyerfortomorrowat12pmifyoucannotmakeitpleasecallusbackatfivefivefivesixseventhreeninesevenfivethreethankyou"... now say that like an LP being played hooked up to a vacuum cleaner motor*.
    TF... ?

    Second.
Why are you reminding me about an appointment scheduled a year ago, less than 24 hours before my appointment when you will fine me if I cancel at this point?
You might as well not call me if your policy is that if I don't confirm the appointment before the end of your very short business day you are going to cancel it and fine me $50 for not showing up for my long forgotten appointment, which I didn't make but they keep scheduling for me.

Also who the hell has their entire office out to lunch at the same time so when someone calls back to complain, they have to leave a message...?

I can't stand my stupid dentist... he was marginally better than the dope I had before, but at least the previous guy was a human... This guy has like zero personality, no sense of humor and an office full of pictures of his huge boat which only serve to remind me of how much money he makes for being incredibly mediocre at his job.

*For non-old people: an LP was a type of plastic music recording medium that manifested as a circular disk which had grooves scratched into the surface by the claws of a now extinct species of rodent and played back by running the beak of an equally extinct species of bird through the grooves as the disk spun... generally the also extinct, but different species of rodent that rotated the disk would run at about 33 rpm... and the preceding description of what LPs were and how they worked was an equally archaic reference to a cartoon caveman show contemporary to the higher popularity of the aforementioned music disks... and vacuum cleaner motors run notoriously high, often in excess of 10,000 rpm, with buttloads of torque, which would actually obliterate a vinyl record within a few seconds, which makes repurposed vacuum motor less suitable for playing records, but excellent for using in homemade hovercraft... air cushion type, not anti-gravity.

Just think of the Dentist deciding who he can trust, for each new customer whose mouth that he's going to put his fingers into.indecision

Well, at least if you bite his fingers, you'll be able to say you didn't feel them!

Well, because I wasn't able to call back again, my wife ended up getting in touch with the dentist's office and canceling the appointment with no penalty... that was very convenient since I've in a very cranky mood because I've been driving all day and I might not have been pleasant.

I'm thinking of illustrating a satirical driver's manual based on how people actually drive... like how to make a left turn using the right lane on a three lane road... or how it's high beams or no headlights at all and the secret purpose of those little levers on the sides of the steering column...

If you do this, give me a link to the PDF.  Should be a million laughs!

And the problem with alcohol is, at some point you're going to wake up and be right back where you were trying to get away from. Or naked in an alley. Either way, there are some things that don't get better easily.

You make the "or naked in an alley" part sound bad... you know sometimes that's intentional or even a semi-unintentional part of a bigger plan and actually kind of altruistic in a convoluted and utterly perplexing manner.

I totally agree.  The real reason for my comment about alcohol was, I was thinking about coping mechanisms.  Because I had noticed a few people in this forum, and in my personal life, were going through things that were more than a person can handle. Regardless of whether it was somebody I'd only seen online or somebody I'd woke up with, I tend to take people personally and wish I could help. And there have been a few times I became overwhelmed myself. I knew words weren't enough. But the only other idea I could come up with was becoming drunken. But it just delays the inevitable moment when one has to face reality. And while I don't mind being naked or in an alley, I do have a thirst for knowledge. I tend to have questions like, "where are my clothes" or "who paid for the drinks". And most importantly, "where is my phone". And it's like, I can't use the Find My Phone feature because I don't have my phone. It's like when the only way to get a free item is to pay for an item.

has posted an awful bloody photo on Facebook, he has destroyed his nails but all the joints look intact so likely missed any bone so should heal but nail beds will be severely damaged

likely will grow deformed if grow back at all, basically sliced 3 fingernails off by looks

not as bad as I imagined from text, more painful than anything else

I mean having nails ripped off is bloody painful but his hand should still be functional
