There are 148 rope segments, and 45 more for the knot. The initial shape is done with a couple of pose controls on the top node. Set them all to zero, and you will have a straight rope. If not, then restore the figure pose, or zero the figure pose. Actually, you can just restore figure pose, the memorized shape is a straight rope.

each segemnt must be selected individually or how are multple segemnts manipulated at the same time? but restore figure pose works, i never knew about that one, thank you!

  • You can select multiple bones and pose them together, using the sliders or enabling Secondary Nodes in the Tool Settings pane and using the Viewport gizmo.

  • The best way to zero something but without any risk of having the figure move to its default location as well is to select all its segments except for the top node. Then zero those individually.

For example... let's say I have Genesis with a specific pose sitting in a specific location within my scene. I could click the root node ("Genesis"), right click the Preference pane and use the "Zero => Zero figure" option or even the "Zero figure pose" but both of them will result in the figure getting moved to the zero position within the scene as well. Fun when you have your camera focussed on that specific area, good luck getting the figure back there.

Instead (with using Genesis as example, this procedure works with every figure):

    • Expand 'Genesis' and you'll find the "Hip" node, select it.  (in case there are multiple "sub-nodes" you obviously need to select 'm all).
    • Then right click on "Scene" (the pane) and use: "Select => Select children"; this selects the "Hip" node and all nodes "below" it.
    • Right click on "Parameters" (the pane) and use: "Zero => Zero selected items"; wham:  your figure now has a zero'd pose but remains in its place within the scene.
    • Fun fact: you can assign keyboard shortcuts to these actions: press F3 for that.

IMO this is the best method to use because it keeps your figure within its designated location within the scene.
