DAZ Studio doesn't fully utilize RTX 4090?

When I was running DAZ Studio with my RTX 3090 + RTX 2080, according to GPU-Z the TDP was always over 99% when doing an Iray Render.

As of this writing (11-16-22) my RTX 4090 (Driver: 526.86) in DAZ Studio (V.4.21.0.5) according to GPU-Z doesn't go over 62% TDP.

Don't get me wrong, the RTX 4090 outperforms my previous 3090 + 2090 rig but not by as much of a gap as I was expecting. I have to wonder if the TDP diffences might be the reason why. I also have to ask, does anyone know why the 3090 would get almost full TDP while the 4090 doesn't? (In Iray, just to be clear, I have gotten 95%+ TDP in VR apps/games with maxed out settings, unrelated but Microsoft Flight Simulator + HP Reverb G2 + RTX 4090 = Chef's Kiss)

For the record, gonna repost my benchmark results from a few weeks ago

"my RTX 3090 + RTX 2080 render the DAZ Studio Benchmark Scene with version 4.21.0.5:
    1 minute and 38 seconds

My RTX 3090 on its own:
    2 minutes and 9 seconds

My RTX 2080 on its own:
    5 minutes and 37 seconds"

"Zotac Airo RTX 4090 with Game Ready Driver
    526.47:

    1 minute and 23 seconds"

The reason why I'm suspecting that the RTX 4090 should do better is that other benchmarks for other rendering apps report an over 90% increase of RTX 4090 vs 3090 but in DAZ Iray I'm only seeing a 64% improvement. Good but should be better.

Do you have any other rendering software to test in?  Daz Studio is using Iray which is from Nvidia.

On JayzTwoCents YT channel he mentioned that the newer drivers give an increase of performance to the 30 series cards so the performance gap is now a little smaller

From the Private Build channel on the change log (http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/change_log) :

    • Update to NVIDIA Iray 2022.1.0 beta (363600.482)

And from the Iray Blog (https://blog.irayrender.com/)

    • Iray 2022.1.0 beta released

      • Guided sampling during camera movement
      • Guided sampling support for the caustic sampler
      • Much faster material and environment updates
      • New spectral sun&sky model
      • Native Lovelace & Hopper support
      • Native Sphere/Particles support
      • MotionBlur support for fiber/curve vertex motion
      • Catmull-Rom and linear data support for fibers/curves
      • ..and the usual pile of bugfixes

So Native Lovelace support looks to be now in Daz pre-beta and I guess that's when the full power of the 4090 will be unleashed ..

Thank you for finding and sharing this information! I'm really really looking forward to what my rig will be able to do then. :)

So, checking in here, partly because I don't know how to navigate all of the beta threads but how far away are we from native Lovelace support?

It's in the next iray update, but of course we don't know when that will be availbale - in Public Build or General Release.

Hopefully in the public build before Christmas or otherwise not this year for sure.

just tried 4.21.1.26, still no native 4090/lovelace support.

Oh well, maybe next year. :)

How are you determing that? nVidia says that the version of Iray in the current Public Build has native Lovelace support, assuming you have sufficiently recent drivers.

I'll update my drivers and retest tomorrow.

Zotac Airo RTX 4090 with Studio Driver 527.56 in DAZ V 4.21.1.26

    1 minute and 14 seconds

Ok, so definitely an improvement. A performance gain like this especially will add up over very large batch renders but it still wasn't the 90% improvement relative to the 3090 that benchmarks for other renderers have achieved (74% to my previous benchmark's 64%). Well hopefully, there's still more headroom to find in Iray's development).
