What generation is V5?

I'm a bit confused on the generation business. What is the difference between Victoria 5 and Victoria 3 (or 2 for that matter). I noticed a character called Bethany 7. Is this character a Genesis 2, 3 or 5 character. Victoria 5 came with my Cararra 8.5 upgrade. Is Victoria 5 a generation 2, 3 etc?
Comments
Victoria 5 is 5th generation; Bethany 7 is seventh (current generation/Genesis 3).
There is no Genesis 5...yet.
Don't confuse "Generation 1" with "Genesis1". Genesis1 started at 5th generation. Using only Victoria as an example, we have:
Generation 1 V1
Generation 2 V2
Generation 3 V3
Generation 4 V4
Generation 5 V5, Genesis1
Generation 6 V6, Genesis2
Generation 7 V7, Genesis3
etc.
Thank you mjc and sriesh for clearing that up[;^)]
Generatrion 2 was also used for non-Daz3d Poser characters for a while.
Like all things it depends on who you ask
Gen 1 to Gen 4 are the Millennium series of base figures for Poser, now only two base figures are present in all four generations, the Millennium Man (Michael) and the Millennium Woman (Victoria).
We haven't had a 5th Generation of the Millennium series so no more V & M base figures, so continuity has ended (and marketing hates that as it usually means they have to start over).
what we have instead is the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Generation of the Genesis series of base figures for DS.
To keep continuity going marketing started slapping 5th gen tags on some of their character morph sets, and they have just carried that on with 6 and 7.
Can't say as I blame them really, the R&D costs on the Genesis figures as well as DS4+ aren't cheap, yet they have given us them all for free, so that's a large cash hole they need to fill in some how.
