I need to use the Dire Wolf in an illustrtion. That one doesn't come with an LAMH hair preset. So I'm going to have to use «spits» Iray.
I'm on an intel iMac. I have plenty of RAM to handle a CPU render, but Iray is set up to time out well before the scene clears enough to regard it as complete.
I know there is something in the render settings that can be adjusted in order to keep the render from timing out. I just don't remember what it is. Could anyone give me a reminder?

It should be either Max Samples (increase beyond the default of 5000) or Max Time.
Turn the max time to 0 and it will keep going until the iterations you've set are completed, or the convergence percentage is hit.
Max Time (secs) 7200 change to Max Time (secs) 0
Thanks, all. That should do it. I can set it up and let it run overnight.
It there were a way to make Iray do a standard bucket render (I think that's what its called) there wouldn't be a problem.
If its ending sooner than the 2hr default mark discussed above, you may also need to increase the "rendering converged ratio" setting from 95% to 99+%. Even if you are using a post fire-fly fixer.
Just set the Rendering Quality Enable to "Off" , Max Samples and Max Time to 18 000 (5 hours) or more and let it run
You could simply apply UberSurface to the fur. I'm sure someone as experienced with 3DL as you could make this look a lot better than what I could throw together.
