I can upgrade the card or the mobo and processors

I know the 3090 will lose transfer rate in pci3 slot but how does the effect the overall preformance
Will the 3090 run with the driver for win 7?

newest driver is 474.06

DS 4.20 works in W7, DS 4.21 requires newer Nvidia drivers that don't exist for W7
The last version of Nvidia drivers for W7 and RTX3090 is 472.12, there has been four security updates since then, but they don't change the functionality of the drivers.
I have a 3090 with an AMD X470 motherboard and i'm running Windows 7.
The current release version, DS 4.21.0.5 works fine in Windows 7, however in the public beta (currently 4.21.1.13) Iray was updated to 2022.0.1 which requires driver version 512.78. Because of this, 4.21.0.5 will be the last version to support GPU rendering on Windows 7.
As for using a 3090 on PCI-E 3.0, the performance difference is negligible.
For gaming use PCIe 3 x 16 is about 1-2% slower and PCIe 3 x 8 is about 10% slower than PCIe 4 x 16.
For rendering I can't imagine it makes any difference at all.
thanks to all. prices seem to have dropped below my availible credit line so I'm seriously considering upgrading the card.

For some reason my asus board refused to upgrade to 10 even though 10 is supposed to install on dual processor machinces so I got a win server 19 and went through learning enough to set it up and then a game was trying to do something and crashed and took out some audio parts etc that the trusted installer refuses to fix, so I have to do all that again, Although the 2019 server without the fancy extras from the home edition was pretty nice.
But since I'm using 4.20 now sounds like it should work.
