Legacy UVs for Genesis 9 - Will I be able to convert textures?

The Legacy UV for Genesis 9 that has just appeared at the store - will that allow me to convert older G3, G8, and G8.1 textures over to G9? That would be with the map transfer utility I believe.
I'd rather not use the geoshells, I want to convert the textures so then I'd use the legacy textures along with the G9 detail maps.

That's what it does for a living! It uses geografts for the head and shoulder areas, which is how Caymen has done this before, if I recall, with the v4->g3 UV transition. It works pretty well - I bought it today and have given it a spin around the block. I'd prefer it not to use the geograft approach, but I can't complain - it works. It's not so much that the materials are 'converted' - more that the UV mappings and geografts allow G3, G8 and G8.1 materials to be used on G9.
The geoshell works, but doesn't really answer the question - does it allow you to use the map transfer utility to convert?
This is not a converter, no. It allows you to wear a G8 skin on G9, but it doesn't convert the texture itself.
I know it won't convert the textures... will it allow me to convert textures?
Right now (without product) as you see in the screenshot in the Map Transfer you only have G9 UVs.
ETA: Cayman Studios popped in, it will not.
Would the legacy UV tool allow G8 LIEs to be applied?
For example, I have a G9 Character that I want to use a base G8 skin. I now want to add tattoos, let's say from the inked series. Could I do that?
Yes. You apply the LIEs just as you would any texture and then set the UVs. If you look on the product page you can see that one of the popups shows Victoria 8.1 tattoos on Victoria 9.
In my experience with an earlier product, Map Transfer doesn't recognize the geografts as being parts of the figure, so there's no way to Map Transfer old textures to the new UV.
Will this only work with female textures or with male textures also?
Female only hence Legacy UVs for Genesis 9: Genesis 3, 8, and 8.1 Female... The creator is working on the male counterpart.
I bought this product and think it is SO GOOD, but I do not get how to use 8.1 textures on G9.
No problem using G3 or G8.
I am clearly doing something wrong * which is not unusual for good old me, hahaha *
Will this let me change shine/color of lips on G9?
Petra, with Genesis 8.1 textures it is important that you run the Apply UVs script rather than just change the UVs manually, because the Head MAT overwrites the Face MAT on the main mesh when the G8.1 MATs are applied, and the script will correct this by copying the Face MAT from the geografts and paste it back onto the main mesh. This is explained in the User Guide PDF on page 4.
The geograft has a separate Lips surface for the legacy textures, so you will be able to change the shine or colour there just as you could on the old textures. But you will not be able to use the geograft's Lips surface properly with Genesis 9 textures.
Thank you so much for your reply.
I wil do that.:)
Thank you! In the cart it goes!
Can I add just the lips geograph to G9 if I only want to change the lips with a G8 lip texture on the geograph but keep all other G9 textures? (I really don't understand why they removed such a major feature from G9 in the first place!)
I don't think I've ever applied a different texture to the lips surface than for the rest for the face. I don't like the razor hard edge that it creates. You might be able to use the geometry editor to creata a separate surface for the lips on G9, but I'm not sure how to do that.
No, all the geografts are created as one piece, so the Lips do not come separately.
It would be very easy to create a single geograft for the Lips and then you could set the textures as you liked. One thing I would say about doing this is that rather than just set a loop as the graft surface you should set the entire geograft surface as the graft surface. The corresponding surface on the main mesh should also be set as the graft surface as well as the auto-hide surface. This is because the lips intertwine, and will otherwise give the impression of being encrusted with sticky gum when you open them!
I just purchased it but won't have time to check it out until Monday. That sounds really complicated. Any way you would consider creating an addon that lets you use just G8 lip textures on G9 in its own surface? I think a lot of people would be interested in that...
Has anyone tried using this, exporting the figure meshes, and converting materials using something like R3DS Wrap?
The product was not made for texture conversion though some could be 'Map Transferred', e.g. 'Face' on Head surface...
I ever used Wrap (now it's named as Faceform Wrap) to convert textures from G8 to G9 before the release of this product..
