How do you use/combine puppeteer layers?

Hi I have one layer that has been used to do an animation between several Genesis poses but I want to be able to add an independant control for moving the head to look at various things.
I created a new layer and puppeteered (recorded) the head/neck movement but now the character ignores what's on the other layer.
It would be really good if there was some proper documentation on this (I believe there was once upon a time ie. doku.php but it got thrown away years ago) instead of random videos which are hopeless as you cannot search them for content like a web pages.
Begging for help from any old school DAZ users that know how to use Puppeteer properly?
Thanks!

it's the genesis+ figures as one mesh
with legacy Poser type figures one could AFAIK puppeteer separate body parts
been so long I really cannot recall but what I do is save animations as poses and combine them that way, I edit the expanded timeline deleting unwanted keyframes
another way is to create aniBlocks
Ah thanks - I'm not up on the play with DAZ since a few years, I've been Blendering with eevee but now coming back into DAZ to try out Filament animations since I have invested a bit in G9 (with hope and fingers crossed).
Don't you need Animate2 full version to make aniblocks? Again the lack of documentation is letting me down.
I might have to resort to animating in Blender which is much more feature rich although also has pitfalls.
Seems weird though that you can add layers to a figure but seemingly no way to "combine" them in a useful way.
a lot of this stuff never got updated after Genesis 1 so only half works
on V4 and M4 everything works
AniMate too, especially Genesis 8 it misses some features
no you don't need to use Animate, save poses as I do, they did at least update the timeline!
Keymate and Graphmate were integrated so you can isolate parts and save poses that can be added to each other
Thanks Wendy, yes I did find that those graphmate and keymate panes are now free which is nice
Recording idependent layers usually works.
Are you sure, you set keyframes with your first layer?
