Possible to edit existing strand based hair?

This product shows that it uses dforce strand-based hair

dForce Togatta Hair for Genesis 8 | Daz 3D

But when applied to a character the icons in the scene view next to the hair nodes dont show as strand based nodes and attempting to edit them with the strand-based editor gives the expected message of "a strand-based node must be selected".

Are these somehow locked/converted once they are published that prevents the end user from editing them with the strand-based editor?

Thank you for any help!

  • Yes, the Strand Based hair is converted to dForce hair which if different and not backwards-convertible. dForce Hair can also be made from imported geometry without touching the Strand Based hailr system

Ahh, okay. Thank you, Richard.   Is there any way to reduce the total number of dforce hairs that show in the viewport by default?  I lowered some of the settings in the Surfaces but there was a minimum value where the hairs would not reduce beyond that point.

I am exporting what is visible in the viewport and then using them as guides in Maya Xgen but there are way too many by default. I only need about 5% of what it shows by default.
