For those who enjoy a glass of wine with dinner, or a mug of beer with a pretzel, December 5th is Repeal Day.  The 18th amendment ushered in prohibition of legal alcohol distribution and sale.  Supporters of this Temperance movement built a string of memorials which also served as water fountains, like this one which is still at the corner of Indiana and 7th, NW in Washington DC.  See Temperance written at the top.  The 21st Amendment repealed the 18th, and allowed local governments to legalize the distribution and sale of alcohol if they wished.    December 5, 1933.

Here is one article related to fashion, art, and design during the Jazz Age, roughly coinciding with Prohibition

I F'n despise alcohol, it has caused countless deaths and too many lives have been, and continually, ruined by it! Dec 5th will be uncelebrated by me… Sorry OP, but I cannot celebrate with you, I've known too many people that were negatively effected by alcohol!
