It may be that putting a models in a group "kills" the shells (4.21 with Win 10). I'm not sure but I can't find anything else which I did when the shells disappeared. And they did disappeared in *very* special way - they remained in the Scenes tab but were actually missing - when selected nothing appeared in the Surfaces tab and the effects from them were missing too (that's why I started to search for a problem).

(I have to remake a lot of scenes so cannot spare a time to confirm if it's correct or the reason is something else).

Edit: If someone really wants to try it - I forgot to write not just putting models with shells into a group but also exporting the group as a subset and then importing it into a scene (and there were two models into the group)

What shells? Geoshells? What product? What character generation? Any screenshots or anything? There's sure not much to go on here.
  • It's geoshells for sure.

So why are you not using another DS version (always make backups) to test & troubleshoot your issues?

Came to me.  Pretty sure I know why now.  Your system has at least one 4090.  Still think a backup system with a 3090 would be of help.  DS can always break features from one version to next.  Just a software dev reality.  Anyway just a thought.  Not on newer DS myself yet.

Because this will not help in my work but just will waste additional time. The truth is until recently I used Nulls to create groups, and decided to try how it will be to use "Groups" to make groups, so just I'll proceed the old way.

Good if nulls work.  That's what I use.

Sorry to hear you feel it is a time-waster.   Odd time it helped me.  Whatever works for each.
