Limbstick Error

Hey guys,

In the middle of my work limbstick randomly decided to start throwing an error. Worked perfect when pinning one characters hands, went to do the other character in the scene and it says "error reading the file. see log". Now it doesn't work at all with any characters or any scenes.

Anyone know where that log would be? I checked daz's log but nothing was in there regarding limbstick. Or if anyone knows of a simular issue and how to fix it.

Thank you in advance.

Oh, I have a similar problem.

I'm a new Daz user (Daz 4.21, MacBook Pro). I plan to model and animate characters in Daz and then export them to Blender for rendering.

I want to animate benchpress training. I imported the barbell, pinned hands with pins to stay in the same position, and attached IK chains to each hand and the barbell, but as probably more advanced users could guess, it didn't work out as expected (hands sliding etc.). I looked out for solutions and came across the LimbStick script, as it seems to be the perfect tool for such animations. I purchased it and tried to install it, but unfortunately, the error pops up whenever I try to run it ("An error occurred while reading the file, see the log file for more details").

The first time I installed it via DIM, found the LimbStick in the Smart content section, installed it again within Daz Studio, and added it to the script tab. Then I uninstalled it both in the smart content and DIM, and installed it again. Then I uninstalled it and installed it in Daz Central – still the same. Also, I have the impression that the files I installed at the beginning are left in the content library even after uninstalling. I even tried reinstalling Daz (in Daz Central). Nothing seems to work. I guess I can try installing it manually, but as a newbie, I'm unsure which folder I should choose for unzipping. There are plenty of tutorials for 3rd party clothing and hair assets, but I'm not sure if the LimbStick should have the same directory – I really don't want to mess anything up. Also, as it's available on the official Daz website, it feels like it should have been doable in Install Manager.

According to the log it iss till installed through Daz Connect. Right-click on the product icon/container and select Uninstall to get rid of that.

Thanks, I've deleted the files. But what is the best way to successfully install the LimbStick and run it?

  • Deleting won't help, you need to unisntall from the right-click menu. If you don't DS will keep looking for the deleted files and will give the error, even if you still have files from Install Manager/Daz Central.

  • Ok, so I've uninstalled it from DazConnect and now it looks clear. What could be the solution for the LimbStick error? How to install the scripts (not hair or clothing) in Daz manually?

  • If you are sure that the Connect version is uninstalled try reinstalling through Daz Central/Install Manager and see if the error finally goes away.

  • Unfortunately, still no success. Tried it at least five times and installed it through Central and Install Manager, and even had an attempt in installing manually – nothing works.

  • Just passing through with my 2 cents worth, ideas: uninstall Limbstick via whichever methods it was installed. Close D/S. Reboot the computer. [this is to really clear memories]

If using DIM, just use DIM. Do not use both DIM and Daz Centrale. I install most things manually by merging like folders together [i.e. data merges together with existing data folder] where the main collection of content is being installed. [not in the program folders]

n.b. there are now 2 editions of Limbstick, one for G3/8 and one for G9.

Set up a new scene with the appropriate figures for whichever edition of Limbstick is being used.

Some scripts have an issue with DS.  Browse to its folder and make a copy of Limbstick.  Refesh your daz content with right click right by script in same window, then click on copy and should work.  Unless you have some other issue yet.

I found a work around for now. It won't run in daz still. I haven't checked the log yet since I found the work around. What I did was browse file location and then run limbstick from there. I'll figure it out later what's really going on. I do appriciate all the responses.

Guessing it's most likley an internal id that conflicts.  This is why copy of same script that DS now recognizes as a separate copy with refresh works.  You could say whether copy works for you as well launched right from with DS.

Thank you!!! It finally worked when run from the folder... Thank you for the responses too, I'm really glad it is possible to run it.

  • That is so funny.

    (1) Use beta 4.16.1.43.
Have to make a copy to work w/i this beta.
Run orig limstick exe from folder and it auto-opens the latest (just DL'd) of 4.21.0.5. And ignores my already open DS 4.16.1.43.
Before DLing newest regDS, clicking orig limbstick exe in folder opened my 4.12.0.86 (had for anims) which was regular and said na - script error.

    (2) open/use 4.12.0.86 only (beta in #1 closed). Still have to use copy of exe. Or script error.

    (3) DL latest 4.21.0.5.
Both the orig and copy both work from within DS itself.
    Running from folder also worked.

  • Only the current version of the General Release will be opened from Daz Central or by double-clicking a native file - the betas are not set to be a default action, and any version you move to a new location will lose its file associations.

Good for any of us Beta users and older GenRelease to know this in b/w.  It seemed like a reasonable explanantion, based on my descrip above.  Now its clear.  Thx for b/w confirm.

This still leaves me wondering why my latest 4.21.0.5 recognizes Limbstick dse right from DS, and not so for others.
