Tip: be aware of 3rd party panes when you experience odd behavior!

Hi gang!

I hope everyone is doing good?  We're nearing the Holiday season, our (= gf & me) favorite time of the year, and it is around this period where I like to do some self-reflection someimes on how I am using certain software. For example.. am I really sure that my current way of doing things is the most optimal for me? Isn't there any more way for me to perhaps improve or... maybe try something out and use the remaining weeks to see if it works?

One of the things I love about Daz Studio is its flexibility. I started using a layout preset I enjoyed the most, and over the years I started changing and tweaking and basically ended up rolling my own layout. This year I started paying more attention to other layouts and the idea to separate the scene pane from the rest vs. having them all in the same window really appealed to me, so I did.

Lo and behold: all of a sudden I couldn't access certain entries in my Properties pane as soon as it showed a long list of morphs; the bottom entry would stay outside the scope of the pane. What gives?!!  Did I encounter a bug, maybe triggered by my own tweaking?

Nope!

As it turns out some panes don't behave properly, and docking them in a "constrained window" (as I like to call it) can cause them to misbehave. In my particular example this was noticeable by the scene/Aux section not being able to resize anymore, as well as the bottom of the Properties pane dropping out of view. After mvoing the 3rd party pane things started behaving normally again. (edit): So: a pane that was provided by a plugin which in its turn was developed by someone other than the Daz 3D company themselves.

I'm not going to mention names because that's between the author and me, but considering the fact that this can happen with any kind of 3rd party pane (this wasn't the first time for me) so I figured I'd share..  As such my tip: in case you experience something odd with your UI.. maybe start by focussing your attention on this?

And for the record?  Moving 'scene' into its own dedicated section and then also addding "aux" in there was most definitely an improvement for me. I'm still learning and experimenting with Aux (don't use it often) but having the ability to quickly select something in my scene and then immediately going over their properties is a very nice touch. Like I said: this is what I love the most about Daz Studio: having the ability to truly make the interface, and the whole environment basically, fully your own.

Thanks for reading, I hope this could be useful for someone.

What is a "3rd party pane"? Are you referring ot a pane created by a Daz Studio plugin from the Daz store, or something else?

Good question, I should have been more precise about that. You're on the mark though: a pane that was created by a 3rd party Daz Studio plugin; so a feature added by a developer other than Daz 3D themselves. Usually these behave as intended as expected, but sometimes things go horribly wrong in specific situations.

If it is plug-ins, this sample script http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/scripting/api_reference/samples/plugins/plugins_load_config/start will disable non-Daz plug-ins for you (after a restart). After that you can turn them back on, one by one or in small groups, through the checkboxes in help>About Installed Plug-ins until you identify the culprit.

Thanks a bunch for sharing!  Also: please disregard my PM, it seems I either overlooked something or my browser played tricks on me (or something else I don't care for). Since I can't see my sent messages I figured I'd combine things :)

    Thanks again!
