Interactive license - determining perms for specific application

I hope I am posting in the correct area. I did a search and found nothing regarding this.

I am looking at purchasing the Horse 2.0. The intention is to have this rigged for animesh (if it is not already because I will be paying someone else to do it). It would be then exported for use in OpenSim. I have no desire to sell the exported item. I want to gift it for use in OpenSim to encourage people to start a community of trail riders, similar to what Teegle, Real Horse, and Waterhorse have done in SL. I want to pay for the dev, then give the imported product away. Is there an issue with this? If there is, I likely won't pursue it. If not, I will have more questons regarding riding systems and animations. Thank you for your time. Please don't beat me up too badly for asking. I did read the license and it APPEARS to me that this is an acceptable use, however, someone else who is a creator told me that it is outside of licensing.

  • This would not, on the face of it, be allowed - the license is for content used in a game, not for add-on content for a game. It might, however, be worth opening a Sales ticket to see if daz might allow it in this case, possibly with stiuplations about how you license it if they do.

Rule of thumb, if you ever want to gift or share anything, it needs to be an original creation that you created from scratch, or commisioned someone else to create and you retain all rights. Basically everything you purchase from DAZ, you are purchasing the right to use it for personal use only. The interactive license just allows you to use that item in an original commercial (not free) game and not as a mod. If you submit a ticket to DAZ and they still say no, then you might try Turbosquid or CGtrader since they have much broader licenses and usage, but at a higher cost.
