Help organizing my library

Hi all!

I have a bit of a problem. My library has gotten so large that its becoming incredibly hard to find things. I'd like to add new categories and subcategories to the Smart Content pane and I'm wondering if:

A. There is way to manually do this, or...

B. There is a product that can bebought at the Daz Store that will help with this.

As examples, I'd like to create a Clothing subcategory for Medieval clothing, or an Environments subcategory for Apartments, things like that.

Thank you for any and all ideas and pointers.

Robert

  • Right-click on a file or files and select Categorise. The categories that the iem is in in will be checked, the parent categories will be a different tone so you should be able to find your way down. Check the categoris you want, uncheck those you don't, if you need to add a new one you can do it by right-click on an existing category.

  • Thanks, I've been able to create a few new categories!

One other thing that's been an issue, literally everything shows up under Shaders, including outfits. I suspect that's because many outfits have different shaders in them for the clothing, but they're clogging up the Shaders tab. When I try to look at them to Categorize them and uncheck the Shaders box, that box isn't checked. I can't figure out why. Any help?

Bear in mind that items in sub-categories will appear in their parent also.

i.e. if an item is Categorised under Default/Shaders/Iray/Fabric then it will be visible within Shaders even tho that is not explicitly checked.

Note, items can have multple categories so I wouldn't worry too much about removing things from existing categories (since that's a lot of work and might make things harder to find later on) but more on adding them to your new categories.

  • What are you recategorising? Anything categorised as Shader should usually eb amrked as a Shader at top-right of the file thumbnail.

Don't forget, it shows what is compatible with the current item. Many shader presets are set to be compatible with "Any Surface". I have also seen some strange associations coming from poses that are set compatible with "Any Object".

Unfortunately, there's a ton of stuff in there that's showing up under Shaders that aren't strictly speaking shaders like jewelry, shirts and shoes. I just want those to show up under their warddrobe or accessory catgaroies, for example, and not in the Shader area. Filtering By Context does not eliminate the problem.

Any product with at least one asset categorized as a Shader Preset will show up under Shaders. Double-click the Product and it will open a details view with its assets that are categorized as a Shader Preset.

  • The thing is, when I had Daz installed on my old PC this didn't happen. Shaders were contained in the Shaders menu. Items like clothing that had shaders in them didn't show up under Shaders. That's why I'm confused about why the menu is behaving as it is.

What you have selected in the scene, which surface, and whether Filter by Context is checked will make a big difference on what matches as compatible. Maybe it wasn't working properly before...?
