This may give you some idea, although the newer figures aren't added yet. http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/24257/daz-3d-human-figures-a-history/p1
also how do you know the right one for you?
Generation 3 (M3, V3 etc is the older techno;ogy. Gen 4 is more up to date These generations are standalone figures.
Generation 5 figures M5, V5 etc wotk for the oroginal genesis figure (free with DS) Genesis only had one base figure which could be morphed to either male or female.
Generation 6 V6, M6 etc work with Genesis 2 (again free with DS) Genesis 2 has G2F and G2M.
Generation 7, V7 and the other Gen 7 characters wortk with genesis 3. Again Genesis 3 will have 2 base figures, G3F and G3M, but so far only the female is available.
Each generation is more advanced in technology than the previous generations..
If you are just starting out, I suggest that you donwload and install DS 4,8 and the Genesis Starter essentials !,2 and 3 and experiment.with the free base figures to see which you prefer.
i have, i enjoy it but i see so much options but when i see this needs victoria bethinay ect what i want to know is if you buy one those bases does your options of morphs ect grow so much?
The Genesis base figures are free with Daz Studio. But they are just base figures. Once you have seen what each of those does, then you can decide which one to buy the extra stuff for. You will need at least the morph packs for the figure in question,
Buying the Characters such as Victori 7 or Bethany 7 gives you even more variation in your gene pool.
The older generations, such as Gen 4 which is V4 and M4 etc, you have to buy the base figures.
all the stuff like the skin pack and the glutt and butt is that stuff really neassy for modeling or what is that good for
I have to say you aren't modeling when you are using the daz figures. You are using 3D models yes, but you aren't doing any modeling yourself.
I would read the product descriptions to help you get an idea of what you are getting into. When you buy a character it usually is a morph (shape) and a skin texture. Some come with extra presets for makeup and things like that. It will vary.
You can use the free Genesis starter essentials to get a start before you buy anything and get overwhelmed. They come with a basic figure, a basic texture and some clothes to cover them up so they aren't naked. Some basic poses too. Get some practice with those and then you might see what the store is selling with better understanding.
