Using V4/G3F Morphs on a G8F

I've found some products pertaining to [Using V4/G3F Morphs on a G8F] this, but I'm unclear on the exact function of each product, and some of them seem like they do the same thing.

In general.  If I want to take a morph intended for Victoria 4 or Genesis 3 Female and apply it to a Genesis 8 Female, how many products do I need?  Can this be done with a single product, or do I need one product to get the morph file to work at all on a G8F, and another one to get it to work properly by morphing the G8F to be shaped like a V4/G3F?  (Or is neither of those descriptions accurate?)  Does converting a morph for V4 take more steps/products than for G3F?

In specifics.  For V4, is this all that I need, or does that only serve the second function in the latter scenario?  For G3F, is this all that I need, or does that only serve the first function in the latter scenario?  If it only serves the first function, then I haven't found anything to serve the second function for G3F.  Also, either way, I don't understand the difference between this product and this product.  Do they in fact do the same thing, and I would only ever need one of them?

Thanks in advance for the clarification.

Please put your question in the post body and the title - Daz 3D Forums

Clones shapes, like the SY product, enable converting clothes and hairs (fitted items in general) from the cloned figures (Vistoria 4 and michael 4 here) to the figure with the clone (the Genesis 8 figures here). It is not, directly, a tool for morph transfer. The other products do transfer shapes, as far as possible, from one figure to another - note, however, that HD morphs will not transfer. The older Generation products can handle getting a Victoria 4 or Michael 4 morph onto a later figure, then newer tools can transfer that to Genesis 8 (the Genesis Generation X creator died before the release of Genssi 8 so there is no direct tool). https://www.daz3d.com/shop/

  • Okay, so what I need is:

GenX base product to convert from V4 or M4

GenX addon for Genesis 3 to convert to Genesis 3 instead of Genesis 1

G3 to G8 converter to then convert the morph from Genesis 3 to Genesis 8

And if the morph is made for Genesis 3, I only need that third one.

Do I have that correct?  Do I need anything else?  Is there a better way of doing it, using better/fewer products?

Also, are those last two products that I linked in my original post indeed interchangeable, or is there a difference in what they do that's going over my head?

  • You can do it using just the clone shape, but that is a bit fiddlier - there is a long trhad on the subject, as well as sone discussion of the technique in relation to Genesis 9, but I don't have links to hand. However, those tools would give you the automated route as you say.

This post appears to describe a way of doing it without any conversion products at all, however that description begins with having an actual V4 figure in my scene, and I can't find how to do that.  What product contains the "Victoria 4" figure?  Should I be inserting a Victoria 4.2 Base figure instead?  I'm uncertain whether that product would work for me currently, given that "Victoria 4" is its only Compatible Figure, and I don't appear to have "Victoria 4" as I can't find the figure to insert.  Am I just being dense here?  Is V4.2 "how you use V4 in Daz" (as opposed to Poser)?

    Sorry if this is a really stupid question... -_-;

  • Victroia 4.2 is the Victroia 4 figure - it is the second service pack, hence the additional .2 in the name, but not a different figure.

You need the GenX2 Genesis 2 add-on too, it’s required by the Genesis 3 add-on.

G3 to G8 converter to then convert the morph from Genesis 3 to Genesis 8

And if the morph is made for Genesis 3, I only need that third one.

That one or the character converter, yes.

    Do I need anything else?

If you want just the morph, no. If you want to use the textures you'll need the legacy UVs products which enable you to use V4 textures on G3F or G8F

The "V4 to G8" one is this: https://www.daz3d.com/legacy-uvs-for-genesis-8-victoria-4

The "V4 to G3F" one is sold at Renderosity, the vendor wasn't selling at Daz yet when they released it.

They essentially do the same thing, but use different methods to do it.

I still haven't purchased the Victoria 4.2 figure or a V4 clone, as I won't need them if I end up going the more expensive route (right?), but I've attempted to use this method for G3F; both for its own sake, and to test whether I might be able to apply it to V4.  I can't get it to work.  Here's what I'm doing.

    • Load both a G3F and G8F figure into the scene, and move them apart so I can see both at once.
    • Adjust the G3F's arms to roughly match the pose of the G8F.
    • Apply a G3F morph to the G3F figure.
    • The closest thing to the initial "convert to weight mapping" step seems to be to select the G3F and go Edit->Figure->Rigging->Convert to Weight Mapping; doing that gives the error message "A figure with Parametric Joint Parameters must be selected to perform this action," which I'm currently interpreting to mean that this step doesn't apply to G3F, only V4.
    • Click in empty space to not select anything (I suspect this is irrelevant but I'm noting it just in case) and go to Edit->Figure->Transfer Utility.
    • Source : Scene Item : Genesis 3 Female and Target : Scene Item : Genesis 8 Female
    • I don't know what to select for either of the "Item Shape" fields, but I've tried a few different permutations and it doesn't appear to make a difference.
    • Set Distance Tolerance to 0.60
    • Leave the two checked boxes in Projection Options as checked; I'm not sure whether I'm supposed to uncheck these, but again I think I've tried it both ways and it doesn't make a difference.
    • Uncheck everything under General Options except for "Morph Targets."
    • The instruction "to the right choose ALL" doesn't seem to apply, I don't know what this is talking about.
    • Uncheck everything under Post Transfer Options.
    • Click Accept.

The result of all of this is that nothing happens.  I'm guessing that either I'm doing something fundamentally wrong, this method doesn't apply for G3F (in which case I don't know what I should be doing instead), or I haven't found the correct combination of options for "Item Shape" which the instructions don't mention.

I'd really rather not have to buy all of those transfer products as an overhead for using the morphs I want - I could buy at least 5 actual products that I actually want for the amount that they collectively cost - and I definitely don't want to buy them if it turns out that I can manage without them and just haven't figured out how.  Is this method workable?  Is there a better one?  Can someone please help me out here?  Thanks very much.
