Big Afro Hair:

https://sharecg.com/v/99764/view/5/3D-Model/Big-Afro-Hair

Honestly this one is so simple and was so easy to make that it feels like I'm cheating.  But it looks ok enough to me, and when you need an afro, I think this one would work in a pinch.  :)

This is carrara strand-based hair attached to an invisible mesh and rigged to conform to Genesis 1.  Currently this is usable only in Carrara (and by extension in Octane for those with the Octane for Carrara plugin).  In future I intend to explore options to convert these hairstyles to something that is Studio-friendly.

Merry Christmas!  :)

    A beautiful model!

It's a shame that DAZ has neglected Carrara development... frown

converted with Philemo's plugin and rendered in DAZ iray

( I added a texture and opacity map but it doesn't map as well as one would like)

just sharing to give an idea

I may see if Blender Hair tool can make it into fibers but that could take hours and hours

    wire shaded

Wendy, I tried to find the referenced plugin & failed. Could you link to it or a post describing it? The only reference I have found is included in an imaginary announcement of Carerra 2022 by Dartanbek. I have been wondering about Carrera as an alternative to Blender (which I'm finding a touch difficult given the mistique associated with it & it's deliberately obtuse naming & operating conventions). If there is a way of getting models out & into DS, that could be extremely useful.

    Regards,

    Richard

ETA: maybe I found it: https://sourceforge.net/projects/carrara-time-savers/ However.. not a huge amount of documentation to describe what it does and whether it might make Carrera the modeller I'd go to for DS problems.

    Wendy that's awesome!

That pic probably saved me hours and hours of experimenting, tbh.  I totally forgot that the % of hair showed in the assembly room affects what the plugin converts, even though I'm pretty sure I read that in a forum thread years ago it was in one ear and out the other as it wasn't something I was focused on.  Thank you!

Also fun to see the hair in action in an animation.  Looks like it converted great!  :)

    looky here

can convert to curves in DAZ studio more than halving polycount

OK it's not Strandbased but it renders faster (iray only though)
