Buy morphs and dial your own. Why would you use a stock figure for a book cover anyway? ...

I suspect that, if you're earning a living, or a substantial part of your living, from creating book covers then time & deadlines are critical and speed - so stock characters - will get you to the deadline with an acceptable cover. Generating your own character from stock morph packs takes time. Possibly to the point a deadline is missed. There are a wide variety of users here, all have different needs from the program and content. I suspect each of us is an expert in the way we as individuals use the program, so may focus on what we want a lot. Not everyone will always have the same needs & wants. But, it also happens that unless you ask, there's a chance no-one will think of doing what you want.

I do book covers and I would never deliver a client a stock character. I'd feel like I was cheating my client. Creating new characters from dial spinning is actually what I like best about DS and would always at least tweak characters even if on a deadline and NEVER use a DAZ core character without extensive alterations when used commercially.

I will concede this, though: G9 is tricky because more of the magic happens in the skin texture than it does the morphs. There's a lack of HD details to make up for the fact that, at least at the moment, a lot of the skin is a bit too good. It's hard with what's available to get a good, rugged look, even with the other example a bit above me. The dude's handsome, rugged, dirty, but looks like his wife gave him a spa treatment for his birthday, and he's seen less sun the ocean depths. (edit: I tried to upload my own example, but I haven't been able to attach an image since the icons disappeared. Also rugged shaped, dark tone, and really pretty skin despite the fact that it's supposedly a masculine texture.)

I think most folks are forgetting to turn on the detail strength sliders (not to be confused with the HD sliders), especially the FACS Detail Strength...like I did. It makes a huge difference. My guy looks way younger than I would have preferred and then for ha-ha's I just re-opened the scene file to see if I'd forgotten to turn on those extra details and sure enough I did. I'm super annoyed that they aren't turned on by default...but I won't be making that mistake again. Here's an example of the same portrait, just without postwork...his face looks more in line with what I was hoping age-wise...just by enabling that FACS Detail Strength.

I will eat my words. Thank you, I'll try that on mine.

I can understand being frustrated by the lack of masculine genesis 9 content. I sure am. I really want to use genesis 9 and not having a lot of genetics to play with is hamstringing. Especially when there are a lot of female items released daily.

for what i s worth, I like genesis 9, and do want to use it. I'm waiting for a skin solution and a better way to import morphs like xtransfer.

I only wish I had noticed all that before I finished the render and did all the postwork! It's one of those cases where I'd never get the postwork to look exactly like I did before so I'll just have to chalk it up as a learning experience and remember for next time.

(Why in the bajazzles does DS not have those enabled by default...grrr...)

Where are those sliders? I haven't been aware that they even existed?

They aren't on the shaping tab...have to go to the parameters tab with the character selected. There are three sliders that are not enabled by default...but only one pertains to the face.
