Genesis 2 to Genesis 3 converter

I would like something that would take an existing Genesis 2 and convert it to Genesis 3.  Obviously such a tool would require me to buy Genesis 3 morph packs that correspond to my Genesis 2 morph packs in order to work.  Also, the skins would present a challenge as older skins would require compatible UVs on the Genesis 3 model.

I realize this is a tall order, but I have a dream...

Hmm, and Daz would pretty much remove 99% of the reason for folks to buy new stuff; not gonna happen as I think you intend.

Well we do have lots of stuff already. I don't think we will ever get anything for Skins however as it has several challenges. You can look at the thread on how to use Blender to transfer the maps to see how complicated it is.

But we already have tools to transfer morphs (transfer utility is free, does require a bit of reading but will do the job. Once you are familiar with the process it's pretty easy). However, we likely will get a tool someday by some PA that will make it really easy.

For poses, we already have tools to convert them.

For clothes, we already have products for that as well.

  • Nicstt, I believe you misunderstand me.  I know the pose and clothes bridges are already out, and I understand there is limited ability to transfer skins as Larsmidnatt indicates.  I am interested in a tool that will copy the morphs from my 30-strong cast of G2s to G3s to eas the process of upgrading my actors for future use.  This would not remove the need to buy anything, it would encourage those with large G2 libraries to make the move to G3 (and spend the money to buy the morph kits for G3).

Thank you Larsmidnatt, you were on point with your response, I'll try to apply that.

That will come eventually. Dimension 3D has said that he's going to do a third version of his GenX product that will convert morphs from previous generations to Genesis 3, but not until after G3M comes out, so he doesn't have to do the work more than once.

  • So, do we have any new on this GenX version 3 yet???

I'm a newb so I'm not sure, are we talking about morphs or clothes or both? Is there even a Genesis 2 Female to Genesis 3 Female clothes converter? I know there is this product (Wear them all) but it doesn't list G2F.

WearThemAll is for clothes, and the product information does mention G2F, actually: Wear Them All autofitting clones are created to smoothly fit any Genesis 2 Male, Genesis, Victoria 4 and Michael 4 conforming clothes to Genesis 3 Female(s) using the Autofit feature in DAZ Studio.

That said, the thread was about whether or not there would be an upgrade to GenX/GenX2, allowing the transfer of M4/V4/Genesis/Genesis2 morphs over to Genesis 3. Dimension3D said that he would make GenX3 (or whatever it winds up being called), but that he wouldn't begin work on this until Genesis 3 Male was out, so he wouldn't have to duplicate work. Since G3M has only been out, what, a month or so, I wouldn't expect to see anything for this for a little while yet, but we shall see, I suppose.

He may also be holding off until 4.9 is out and stable. Theoretically, the plugin architecture isn't changing; practically, developing against a moving target is a good way to make yourself crazy. I think GenX/X2 may interact with the database, and that IS changing, so that may also argue for holding off a bit for him.

Like to point out that the Genesis 3's don't share the same base mesh this time around so that could slow the developement of GenX3.

If doing skins and UVs is going to be tough, then I'd like to see a morph conversion. Or something like the Legacy Shapes series by Slosh. I'd like to see a "Gen 5 Legacy Shapes for Genesis 3" myself.

I too would really like to see this. I have many G2Fs and G2Ms that would like to see in in updated format. Once I get them updated I could delete my older versions to save room on my drive.

There are some definite clothing and other products in Genesis 2 and prior products that I doubt will be recreated just for Genesis 3 so such a converter / transfer product does have a need but I think the 'porting' of eg, Genesis 2 outfit to Genesis 3 would invlove stripping the morphs and rigging from the Genesis 2 clothing and re-rigging and re-transferring morphs to the Genesis 2 clothing after fitting the clothing the the Genesis 3 character.

That can be done sure but it probably isn't easy.

As far as transferring morphs well as I understand it in most cases that should be easy but with some geometry changes in Genesis 3 characters some morphs are going to not transfer or look bad and manual adjustments made.

The Folks at Rendo figured out how to do this. There are skin converters / UVs now for V4 to G3 and G2 to G3 females from CaymanStudios
