Why is this happening? I can't even get other eye textures to work on him.

Anyone else have this problem? None of the eye mats from essentials worked on him either. I had to bring in another character and copy/paste the eye textures.
Does Nikolai have his own UV?
He didn't load that way for me and I used Minerva's eyes on him at some point... I'll see if I can try some other eyes but I don't have a lot of them for G9.
That's not how it loads for me, it could be your workflow. I go into Smart Content (Daz Studio) and drill down into Male/Real World. If you're still having issues, go into the Product Library for Genesis 9 Basic Essentials and you should be able to load assets there.
I loaded it as I always do, just clicked the character from smart content. The promos show various colored eyes. Mine only came with blue but they don't render and eye materials from essentials didn't work either. As I said, the only way I got the eyes to render correctly is directly copy/pasting materials from a second character brought into the scene. Weird. Maybe I have to uninstall and reinstall. Did other people get more than one blue eye color?
First render with him, looks OK to me. Render time 2:16 on a GTX 1070.
Only one eye color here.
I have two characters, Nikolai regular and Nikolai HD and they both load like the image at the top. I guess I have to try uninstalling and reinstalling it. Is there supposed to be more than one eye color?
I think you need this for eye colors etc.:

I have one other G9 character, has only the default eye color too.
Yeah, I have that. Nothing works on Nikolai. I'm going to try reinstalling it.
Since the essentials expansion has so many different eye colors, I'm guessing that the norm from here on will be that characters simply don't include much any more. Michael 9 had none, and Victoria and Minerva both have only one.
PA characters may be different, though. Casey has four eye colors (and two different texture set resolutions).
Nikolai loads correctly for me. In your image @Wonderland, it looks like the Translucency Color image map is missing from the eye materials in the Surfaces pane. Here is a render with the translucency color map correctly in place, as loaded by the character preset from Smart Content, on his right eye (screen left) and with the translucency color map removed on his left eye (screen right).
What version of Daz Studio are you using? I am using 4.21.1.26 Public Build.
Works fine for me. Just tested
