Smart Content is an amiss mess!

Smart Content is an amiss mess!

What happened to pulling the products' preset contents in a unique product set name, that is, under the products' individual product release name, as before?

This new smart content may as well be my squeezing my eyes shuts as I try to look up a telephone number in the phone book.

  • What do you mean? I am not aware of any changes. It sounds as if you may be in the Files tab rather than the Products tab of the Smart Content pane.

Might be talking about the break-out items in outfits. Which leave you scrambling to wardrobe, accessories and props if you want to find individual pieces, or even for a different name in general like when the outfit has "dforce" in the name but the pieces don't.

Oh, that's it. I didn't even know there was a tab up in that corner. I was distracting in the extreme. Thanks alot, problem solved!

No, it was what Richard said. I didn't even know there were 2 tabs up there at the top: Files & Products.

Oh I find 'files' everytime I am tired, my eyes are fried, and I am trying to click on 'All Products' or something else and hit 'Files'. Drives me crazy.

But 'Files' is how you can find all those things you changed from one generation to another, or a freebie if you created metadata for it.

Glad it was easy then. :)

  • Happy to hear that it got resolved, smart contents can be tricky to get started with IMO but once you get your fingers behind all the basics...

The best part about this pane, in my opinion of course, is that you can customize just about everything about it. For example... I often start working with the Genesis base figures, either to apply specific presets and morphs or maybe start something in ZBrush with the Genesis as base... etc. So I got a Figures => Genesis category which only contains all the Genesis base figures.

I seriously prefer 'smart' over the content library pane (which I also heavily use) when it comes to sorting out my projects because it's all non-destructive. I can easily cateorize my projects under "WIP", "Shared", or specific categories which I use to group renders which are somewhat related to each other. Couldn't be easier!

Thanks. I have resisted extending my "Smart Content" categories metadata until I got my SSD storage settled for many years but once I do that I will extend Smart Content in a way that is helpful to me.

I am now nearly done filling up a 2TB Sata III SSD with DAZ 3D Store content (nearly 8000 products according to DIM) and have decided I will this year do one of these things: upgrade to a 4TB 3.1 USB SSD or 2 2TB 3.1 USB SSDs and split the DAZ Install Manager data (the downloaded zips basically) on one SSD with the DAZ Content Library on the other SSD. Either way, the cost is about the same: $300. The 4TB 3.1 USB SSD is Sandisk while the 2 2TB 3.1 USB SSDs are Samsungs. I would get a 4TB 3.1 USB SSD instead but Samsung doesn't make that size. After I get that done this year, that basically remedies my storage needs for a very, very long time because I don't see my needing or wanting to buy another 8000 products from the DAZ 3D Store although a fair amount of those are "freebies" and the same product but in different formats, eg DAZ, Poser, Carrara, Bryce, and so on. I think they'd have to complete come up with a significantly faster (4X or more) and more much more compact external storage technique that was as cheap to get me to upgrade storage again. After that, I'll be set up to script weekly clean installs of Windows 11, which will be an interesting learning exercise.
