OK this has been asked before, I know it but forum seach seriously sucks devil

I added a nice 980ti the man at shop reluctently stuck my 760 back in too as I said I could probably use the extra CUDA cores at least in my rendering software, he thought was a bit pointless and said I could always just pull it out again anyway so did it but DAZ studio only sees the 760 in "about your video card" so how can I make it see the 980ti?

topic edited

as I can in fact select it in iray but other questions regarding monitors and old 760 card and if any benefit adding it, does it limit geometry to that one over the 980ti or just add CUDA cores if not priority?

You could try setting it in NVIDIA Control Panel.

yeah for some reason I cannot open that now either

I think the 'about your video card' only reports on the card with the monitors; go to the Render Settings tab, select Iray as the render engine, and then go to the Advanced tab and see if the 980 ti shows and is selectable. (My 'about' only shows my GT 740 - which has both monitors. Also, you might want to grab GPU-Z
https://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/ ) and see what it shows - you'll need the current version for the 980 ti to show correctly.

Windows is not seeing my 980ti either and yes have a monitor plugged into it

    GPU-Z sees it

Have you checked NVIDIA for drivers?

  • WendyLuvsCatzWendyLuvsCatz Posts: 38,513

yes and up to date, iray advanced lists both and had the 980ti ticked so yes but octane render for DS does not want to keep it selected and see the memory, I guess another reason not bother to update OrDS to 2.2

Well, that shot my bolt. I know my first 980 ti was DOA - windows device manager stopped it and I couldn't get the device driver to load. But once I got past that (with a replacement card) Studio sees it and uses it for Iray rendering. No idea on Octane though.

I swapped my monitors and now DS sees it in about my video card as does Windows experience index and iray certainly uses it as does Octane render for carrrara

Octane render DS the problem sees it but uses GTX 760's VRAM and I suspect it is because it is OrDS1.2

I am not keen on paying for 2.2 update with AUD = $0.70 USD, will use iray

I still cannot get nvidia control panel up

did initially but after first go and then fiddling with DAZ in its program settings seems to have killed it

    Are you running Windows 10?

If so, you may need to reinstall the drivers and software package from the nvidia website.

I had to do this for my AMD cards to get the control panel back.

I have it back now, was a matter of making the gtx 980ti my main monitor GPU, the 760 is just running th second one, seems I cannot use it to run both oddly and have everything see use the 980ti,, Iray and Octane etc still saw and used it, so prob not an issue in itself and it seems the 760 was the one causing the control panel issue if main monitor GPU

i am using win7 home premium and it is up to date in GeForce experience I do get warnings it is not properly configured and using SLi which of course as it is a lesser card I would not be doing anyway, the guy at the shop thought it should not even be in there as a different generation but it can add CUDA core I thought and a waste sitting in a cardboard box in spare junk room  and apparently octane render 1.2 DS needs it so handy if I do use that unupgraded

Carrara Octane and Octane standalone see and use both too, studio now sees it too in about plugins, is shame cannot run both monitors on 760 but not a huge issue.

i have other issues, octane render for DS being one. that does not use the 980ti as it is 1.2 and the card is not supported. Only in 2,2 and I am not paying $70AUD to upgrade when I can use Iray instead, octane DS was a waste of money once I got the Carrara plugin and DAZ released Iray anyway so I will simply use that and take Octane off my 4.8 public build and only have it on my 4.7 I keep also  for various reasons  mainly related to export.

As Carrara my program of choice and that plugin see both cards, gives temperatures for both and runs beautifully,, I can prioritise the 980ti in it. So it is one the geometry is loaded on in VRAM and have out of core texture so it is sweet!

Are you intending to use SLI?  Iray doesn't work with SLI.

no I was not, no idea why I get that message

I was assuming as they have no SLI connection

I am gonna plug both monitors into the 760 as found it does not contribute to either iray or Carrara and standalone Octane and just render with the 980ti

did some tests unticking in both and actually lose 4GB of memory using it as it defaults to lesser card so it can drive my monitors

about plugins in DS is only the preview window it seems iray still can use it

  • namffuaknamffuak Posts: 4,176

That's the way I run my system - my 740 only has 384 cores so it doesn't contribute a lot to the render, but if I do use it my monitors get so 'laggy' that the system becomes unuseable. So the 980 ti is for renders and the 740 is for screen driving.

And I highly recommend a custom fan profile for the 980 ti. I've just a simple one in place and the 980 ti running flat out doesn't exceed 63 degrees C now.

yes all seems to be working well now except I get that SLI popup still I ignore, can live with that, AFAIK no SLI so prob what the gaming motherboard protesting about.
