How to improve pixelated clothes

As the attached image shown, I often encounter pixelated clothes, especially between shaded and non-shaded area. I wonder why this happens and how this can be avoided.

I thought it's because of low resolution in texture (e.g., 1000x1000). But making texture in higher resolution (2000x2000) didn't help much.

Any help or clue would be appreciated.

  • Posting the question made me experiment more and eventually found that I could reduce the pixelation by adjusting tiles.

If it is the shadows you are concerned about, you can try to up subD, or if the clothing isn't subD already apply it.

  • With the shadows, that looks like either a shadow terminator issue (if using low poly), in which case, as felis states, add / increase sub_d. Or, I have seen similer issues when using some bump/normal maps. (try removing bump/normal maps to check).
