Loading Gen8

Why do Genesis 8 figures take so long to load? I've waited over 30 minutes for this. Genesis 3 or 9 load so much faster. Is there a fix for this?

It's most likely to do with DS having to index all the morphs/expressions/etc you have for the figure; I presume you have massively fewer morphs for either of G3 or G9.

Daz's team are trying to work on a fix to improve loading speed, but there's no clear indication of when it'll arrive. In the meantime, Riversoft's Turbo Loader is supposed to allow you to control what is loaded/indexed, although I'll admit I've not personally used it.

Another possibility is that you have issues with some of your G8 morphs like Duplicate Formulas, which can massively slow down loading, but it should warn you about most issues like that.

The short answer is that if you have a lot of characters and custom morphs installed it has to load every one before the figure loads. I have the same issue with G8F because I have a lot of characters. G8M loads quickly because I only have a few characters and morphs for him.

There are several tricks you can use to speed the load, all related to removing extra characters/morphs, etc. I don't do that myself as it doesn't take more than a couple of minutes for mine to load, but I am sure some others will let you know their tricks.

  • Get turbo loader. Daz will never fix this issue. I use the G8 and G3 version. It works very well.

  • I thought I would add some figures.

I currently have 108 daz "base" figures for G8f. That includes the basic figure, the HD counterpart as well as some G3 for G8 figures, such as Victoria 7 for Victoria 8 for example. But those are just my "base" figures. I also have 477 other characters in my G8f library (sheesh!) as well as numerous morphs packs. So my G8f load time was awful. It got so bad that I started creating new databases for morh packs and characters that I didnt use as often as others. So when turbo loader was released I was at the point were trying to do anything with G8f was extremely cumbursome and time consuming.

Now I can load my G8f with my own custom made load configuration that consists of at least 8 morph packs a character and some expressions in a few seconds. Thats what turbo loader does. It lets you load the figure with just the morphs/characters that you want to use and ignores all the rest of them.

It takes a little bit of set up time to get turbo loader going but its not a big deal. In my opinion, turbo loader is completely worth the price, sale or not.

Over 30 minutes is most likely Duplicate Formulas at work. Check out your log file (Help > Troubleshooting > View log file).

The best thing to do is delete everything in that file & save it, then load in the base G8F, go have lunch or whatever while you wait for it to load and when it does load view the log file again. That way you will be able to see just the stuff that is output while loading the G8F. If you can find a bunch of lines mentioning duplicate formulas in there then you should look to fix those to help with the load times.
