Canvases without .exr files

I'm using a beauty canvas to only render certain nodes in a scene. I don't need the resulting .exr files, is there a setting or script parameter to prevent them from being generated?

By using canvases, I get both, an .exr file AND a .png file.

Yes, I don't need the .exr file, so I'd like to prevent it from being created while still being able to utilized canvases.
