Options for searching the store?

I fail miserably when it comes to searching the store.

I am not talking about search by a text string, which is much better done from an external search engine.

I am talking about searching for a specific type of content.

The search options as Categories, Artist, Genre gives awfully broad results.

Is there an option for searching e.g. Genesis 8 characters, without getting cloth, poses ... included?

Or if I am looking for (Iray) shaders.

Or any other specific type of content.

Those tags that are on the products, e.g. G9, poses, people, are of no use to me. Can they be used in searching?

When there is a sale with lots of pages of items, I will see if there is anything from my wishlist, and then browse through a couple of pages and maybe sort on specific PAs, and then call it done.

    Sounds about right.

  • Daz fails miserably, not you. They've saved me (and probably many others) an untold fortune by allowing these organizational problems to endlessly turn me away, just like you.

You can try Google by using these keywords

    • site:www.daz3d.com
    • Quote signs (For example : "Genesis 8 Male" means Genesis AND 8 AND Male as a keyword instead of searching Genesis OR 8 OR Male)
    • Minus sign to remove results (For example -pose will remove results with pose word)

  • My suggestions for finding a specific type of item are patience and caffeine.  There really is no substitute for going page by page.  Categorization and keywords are long-term problems, so search has never really worked well or reliably.  Daz's effort at addressing the problems is ongoing, sincere, and frustratingly slow.

Sales of new items account for much of the potential money to be made, so I don't know that giving customers an easy way to find older items in the back catalog is a high priority within the company.

  • I find the same issues with most stores, not just Daz. Rendo is even worse, I think CGBytes/R'rotica probably have the closest thing to a working filter/categories section. My biggest pet-peeve is trying to find dforce hairs. Some are in the "Dforce Cloth" header, while others are in "Dforce Hair". Complete insanity and leaves me pulling my own damn hair out.

My experience and the evidence show that prior to November 2020, both the search and the categorization were reliable and consistent. One need only look for Genesis 8 People before then to confirm the categorization is good, (but be sure to select something other than sort by New Arrivals and then reselect New Arrivals to reset it; that function worked before Nov '20 too).

I am not sure, but I think something has gone seriously wrong during the last sale in Dec 2022 and it continues today. When I looked at certain PA's pages, click on what I own, come up with 'nada', yet I know I own something, because the item is in my product library, or say there is '27 of 50' showing before the search (made up number example). I often decide on wether to buy a product by a PA I don't recognize off hand, by seeing if I bought them before. With name changes, or new ones, this is necessary. There are PAs I stay away from now, and others I like, and want to keep an eye out for, who are still new. There is one dress by esha, that never showed up in her store, yet its materials do. I don't own either, and have both on wishlist. Both past the 60 day window for sales. Only the material set showed up.

For a 'type' of item, I find certain words helpful, then try fining down the choices with the sidebar. But that is tricky, I can't seem to unselect something, once I have selected it? Not sure what I am doing wrong.

But frustration is a great money saver I agree.
