Horns!

So I have a horn pack. But not quite the horns I need. I have been working with sculptris to try to fashion the horns I need. But oddly, it wont take a material setting. I am trying to find/make draenei style horns. That curl back over the back of the head and sweep up at the points. Fairly easy in sculptris except it wont take any materials. I tried to make it a obj, import it and apply a setting...no.
I had a similar issue with a staff I made in sculptris and, for the life of me the main stone in it, would never take a material setting.

Any help? A point in a direction for horns of that nature?

Thanks in advance for the help!

When you are saying that it won't take a material, I assume that you can't apply textures to it.

And if so, it sounds as the objecy needs to be UV unwrapped.

Yup. If you use sculptris, you can make a "uv map" (its more like a dropped jigsaw puzzle)
but even after I made one for the horns(and the staff previously). It just wouldn't take. I dont know how else to explain it.
I would go into DS load the obj, go to the folder to grab the texture map and.....nothing.
So then I went for a "material setting" (it was a stone material I had) and clicked....nothing.
I tried gem stone materials, semi-precious stone settings, granite, glass, etc. The odd thing was, the actual staff, had no issue being made to look like wood.

It just seems occasionally, something I make in sculptris just wont take a material/texture setting.

    But,

If there are horns of the nature I am looking for, that may be better
