Depth of Field requires seemingly unrealistic F-Stop

    The F-stop setting bears no resemble to anything realistic so far as cameras are concerned.  Use the DoF plane settings to make the start/stop of the 'field' visible and an alternate camera (side-on) to gauge the changes.

    The longer the focal distance the more exaggerated the F-stop needs to be.  I also find it handy to set the DoF plane colour to soemthing that contracts with the scene, usally red.
