Can't get Manitou character to use symmetry

I see the joint nodes in scene view use capital letters R and L to differentiate sides.  They also have a dot/period before them so in my symmetry settings i changed the default lower case l and r to uppercase L and R, when that didnt work I also tried adding the dot just before but got the same result. For this project no poses will be used everything is modified through translation/rotation/or scale transforms only.

This image is a simple example, I used x scale on the upper arm of one arm to make it shorter and  i am trying to duplicate that to the other side but nothing happens at all. I did experiment with different trunk values, root vs selection etc, I am stumped.

  • The problem is that the script is looking for prefixes (in front of the bone name) but the figure has suffixes (after the name).

Thank you, Richard. I renamed the nodes to put Left and Right as a prefix, and now I am getting some changes when applying symmetry but they dont make sense.  No matter what I try it is adding rotations. I tried all the different options of the Trunk Node settings but none of them made much difference.  I even disabled rotations and it still rotates.  In these attached examples I selected all arm nodes on both sides and used Selected in the symmetry and whether or not rotations is enabled in the Symmetry settings you can see in the second image it still rotates the arms forward, thank you again for any help!

  • I'm not sure why it is doing anything, is that not its zero pose?

it is the zero pose but I am changing the translation and scale on a lot of the nodes as well as sometimes rotation (and only these values, im not using any pose values), and it is these values I want to copy to the other side.

  • So you are edting the rigging? The Symmetry command won't help with that.

Hmm, I have attached an image for clarification, you can see the values on the right that are being affected for this node, Bend, Y Scale, Z Scale.   Is this considered editing the rigging? I thought editing the rigging would involve the joint tool but maybe I dont understand. Thank you again for your help.

  • No, that isn't editing the rigging - I just ewasn't folowing what you were doing. I suspect that this figure has some odd set-up and that that is cinfusing the Symmetry function, but I don't have it to test.

  • Is there a way I can send you the files?

  • Only if it's your own figure.

Apologies, I thought you were an employee. Should I put in a ticket instead?

  • Yes, though I suspect that it will end up being an issue with the figure - which doesn't seem, at least currently, to be a Daz product, rather than DS as such. Still, they may be able to shed some more light on why the issue is occuring and that might enable us to give you some more useful general advice on fixing it.

Okay no worries, and just to clarify it is on the Daz store, but it isnt a Daz original. It seems like part of the QC process of getting a product approved on the store would include making sure it works with this stuff heheh

  • Ah, right - sorry, I ddi search earier and then misrembered that nothing stand-alone had come up. Well, in that case they can at least do a good check and try to figure out why it fails.

  • Sounds good, thanks Richard, always appreciative of your help!
