Small Window Flashes up Before Splash Screen when Starting DS

WandWWandW Posts: 2,845

Hi Gang,

I just built a new Render box running Windows 11 with an nVidia 3060.  I installed DAZ Studio and plugins, and noticed that when I start Studio, a small window flashes on the screen for a fraction of a second. There is a very brief pause, and the Splash screen shows up.  Does anyone have an idea what is causing this or what might be on that screen?  Version is 4.21.0.5 installed via DIM.

Thanx for any insights.  smiley

Could be the elusive "Show Metadata Import Page" from Preferences->Startup...?

  • Do you have any third-party plug-ins? I've a vague recollection that one of them did this, possibly its validation routine. You can use http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/scripting/api_reference/samples/plugins/plugins_load_config/start to start DS in "safe mode" with only the daz plug-ins and see if the window stops appearing.

    Thanx for the replies.

It isnt the Metadata import window, and all of the plugins are from DAZ.  I fired up Studio on my old box, which is running Windows 10 and it doesn't have that initial window.  I discovered a difference in the log files; the new machine lists after the plugins load:

2023-01-22 09:15:56.175 [WARNING] :: Error writing author data.

I have an author name in preferences, so why would it give this error?

  • Are you sure you don't have a version of Look At My Hair? I think that was the source of the author message.

EDIT; I thought it might be the  Dynamic Clothing Control, which wasn't on my old system, but uninstalling it made no difference.

    AH HA!  surprise

The window is coming from one of the Mesh Grabber plugins.  I just recenly purchased the Bundle, and had not installed it on the old machine.  Installing it gives the same popup.

However, it is not the cause of the 'Error writing author data' warning

I'm not seeing the window and I have all the Mesh Grabber Bundle (WIN) plugins installed.

a window often flashes up for me too, I thought nothing of it

too fast. to know what if anything it says (think blank white)

I never realised it was not normal and assumed Malwarebytes or something

    edit

    I don't own Meshgrabber

    Hi All,

I uninatalled the Mesh Grabber Bundle, and the window went away.  I installed the main Mesh Grabber product and it came back.

The Error writing author data warning was unchanged.

  • You also have genX on that list, as a third-party plug-in

Hi Richard, I got it at DAZ. I did enter the serial number...
  • Well, I think most plug-ins come through DAz - by third-party I meant theones developed by PAs.
