Gen 8 items don't show when filter by content is checked

Yesterday I discovered something strange. I had a G8 female figure up and I was looking for an outfit. I went to the Products tab and saw an outfit I hadn't seen before. I noticed "Filter by Content" wasn't checked. I checked it and the outfit disappeared. The only reason I found it in the first place was I searched for dForce outfits. The outfit in question is dForce Blum for Genesis 8 Female(s). I wonder how many other wardrobe items disappears when you check the filter box? (See included image.)

And that's not the only problem. I've purchased other items that won't load up. For instance, I was trying to load up a piece of luggage and I get a error message saying it can't be found. Instead I get only a untextured box-shaped item. I have also found items that didn't have textures included. Unfortunately I didn't take screenshots of them, so I don't remember what they were or the error message. Next time I will and include them in this thread.

Does the Daz team even look over the products that are submitted to see if they even work correctly? And why are there items in the Lost and Found tab?

Your character is not selected and so "Filter by Content" would not be filtering for G8F but whatever "nothing" counts as.

Having said that I have encountered "Filter by Content" not giving me the results I have expected in the past but I am yet to look into why that is. Could be a product issue or down to the way the things are installed not setting the correct compatibility or base. I don't have Linda G8F so can't check to see if she works for me.

  • If the compatibility is failing try reinstalling the Genesis 8 Starter Essentials - it may be that something with bad metadata chnaged the figure's identity, reinstalling should generally fix that.

  • SofaCitizen, nope, that's not it. I just redid it and made sure the figure was selected. The outfit disappeared once I checked the filter option. BTW, the LInda figure is one I used Face Transfer. Another words, it's mine. G8 figure with a face I used.

Richard, not sure what you mean. The figure I loaded I used face transfer on. Would doing what you suggested cause problems with figures used the FT on? Also, how would I reinstall it? I use DIM for installation.

Ahh, sorry, I just assumed it was the Linda for Genesis 8 product from the store.

I believe the issue could be that either your Linda does not have the correct compatibility base or the outfit does not have the correct compatibilties set.  It turns out I have the Blum product and on my machine if I load a G8 dev load female into the scene, select it and filter by context then it does show up. Does that happen for you? If it does not show up for any other G8F then the product may need to be reinstalled, if not then perhaps Face Transfer is not making a G8F that is tagged correctly?

EDIT: If you select Linda in the scene tab and from the corner hamburger menu select Edit/Scene Identification it will tell you what she is tagged as. The attached example is from the G8 dev load but I also tried it on the free version of Face Transfer that comes with Daz and it made a G8F-tagged model. However, perhaps yours made a G8.1 instead somehow?

  • No, the issue that has affected a few people was a newly isntalled product that took the place of Genesis 8 Female as the base of the compatibility, instead of marking itself compatible with as it should have. If you haven't installed anything (or updated metadata) since this started then it probably isn't the issue.

  • Okay. I just tried it on the basic Gen 8 female figure. Still have the same problem. And yes, I did highlight the name for the figure.

Sofa. what do you mean by 'filter by context ten'? I also don't understand ' from the corner hamburger menu select Edit/Scene Identification'.

Richard, sorry but I'm not following you. I have no idea on how to check compatibility. I just found the outfit last week and it has been doing this since then..I originally got it back in 10-15-2021. I have bought and installed a lot of items since then, even had Daz updates as well. So, what should I do?

I still have other issues but I'm saving those for later when I can get images when it happens again.

Sorry, that was a typo on my part - "ten" should have been "then". I have fixed it in the message.

Sounds like my info isn't pointing in the right direction anyway tho - have you tried re-installing "Genesis 8 Starter Essentials" as Richard suggested?

  • Sofa, no, not yet.

I just found another item with the same problem. dForce Chic Party Fashion for Genesis 8 Female is doing the same thing.

I asked Richard about reinstalling but haven't heard back about it. I don't want to reinstall it and it screws up my figures. Also, I'm not sure about how to go about that. Do I uninstall in in DIM, then go and reinstall it?

Looking at the metadata for dForce Blum Outfit, there are some big holes there. None of the clothing items are categorized (but the material presets are), so they end up in Lost and Found. They are made compatible Genesis 8/Female (except for the full outfit preset), but not having a category, they won't show up. (There is also a compatibility confusion with the overall, copy/paste from the material presets. Not critical, but if it is going to be changed, clean it up).

It sounds like you would not be comfortable editing metadata. A help ticket would be required to get it officially changed, anyway.

Re-installing via DIM is easy enough. If you open DIM and switch to the installed tab, you can search for the installed product. Then right-click on it and select "Re-install packages" - see the below image.

I don't know enough about this exact issue, but you may want to try the "Re-import metadata" option first since that potentially may be good enough.

Cross-post. Re-installing will not help. The problem is with Blum's metadata, not with Genesis 8 Female...

  • I decided to have a work around for it since I found another product not showing up. I've created a Wearable folder in Content Library/My Library/Presets where I'm going to put the outfits in as I find them.

  • If all that is missing is a category it's easy enough to fix - find the file in the Content Library, right-click>Categorise, and check a category that seems apt.

The problem you have just results from the wrong metadata of this Blum Outfit you mentioned. You may right-click on the product icon - Edit Metadata..., go to Assets tab and choose the item '!BlumAll' in the list. You may see on the bottom, this is the only item has the Category of  'Wearable/Outfits‘’, however, there's no Compatibilities assigned to it (in 'Compatibilities' tab). All the other 5 separate wearables have no Category data but have Compatibilities. That's why they go to Lost & Found first off.

When you select 'Outfits' sub-category with 'Filter by Context' unchecked, this Blum product icon will be shown as '!BlumAll' has category of 'Outifts'. When you tick the filter, it'll be gone as '!BlumAll' has no Compatibilities value for G8F.

You may assign '/Genesis 8/Female' to this '!BlumAll' in Compatibilities tab and save the metadata, then this 'not shown problem' will be fixed for the selected 'Outfits' category... For the other wearable items, you need to assign categories to them. This way apllies to all  the same issues of other products.

If the author releases no updated package with fixed metadata (seems he didn't), you have to fix the missing data by yourself if you do need them... or send a ticket, maybe? wink  There're lots products have such similar issues.... The moment I discovered them, I normally fixed them at once since I had no patience to wait for the updates let alone those products with no update ever... But nowadays, I'm tired of doing so, just let go by using other tricks~

Again, in terms of Lost & Found, items go to this category only because they don't have category assigned. The quickest way is to give them proper Categories by following what Richard mentioned. But such a way will only write the data to cms database with no updating the metadata dsx file in the support folder. One day if you re-import the metadata of this product for some reason, the problem will be back. Therefore fixing them in Content DB Editor plus ticking Auto Export (dsx file) might be better.
