Iray and ptex

I made some renders with ptex and 3dlight. It works fine.

Than I switch to Iray and my ptex texture is gone.

Is ptex supported by Iray?

Probably not...ptex is a Disney/Pixar/Renderman (and since 3Delight is a Renderman compliant renderer, it too) thing.

    That is a pity.

Blender will introduce ptex texturing too.

ptext has some advantages over uv-mapping.

There are also downsides to using Ptex.  It is still very new and it will take time to see how far Ptex will penetrate past the film industry.

    I don't know if I would call it new :)  http://ptex.us/index.html

It's opensource. When I was running Red Hat I saw it in the repo.I didn't try it out back then because I wasn't into 3D art back then.

The front page says they support mental ray, 3Delight, and a few others.

here's the download page for the source code http://ptex.us/download.html . It has links to their github where the source is hosted.

also , Nvidia's PhysX was recently opensourced (this one is on Nvidia's GITHub)

Lot's of nice things going opensource, wouldn't it be cool if some of them found their way into Studio ( hint  hint )  :)

    Qt is in Studio....

So PhysX is now going up against Bullet, directly...hmmm.

Ptex is going to need support from Nvidia and since Otoy has, or will be, adding support, it really is only a matter of time.
