Confused by DS download, some questions

Hi Folks.

I downloaded the current DS but I was surprised by the way it unfolded.

It did not ask me where it would locate the DAZ content, so I could instruct it. Usually it asks during installation where to install DS and where I will store content. That is important for me because my content will not fit on C drive. I have a new external drive to use for all daz content.

Did I miss something?

Firstly, I would recommend you logout of Daz Studio itself and keep it that way - this stops Daz installing things using Connect which does things in a weird way and DS does not need to be connected to your account for any other reason. Then uninstall any products that DS has installed itself in drive C.

Then if you load up DIM (Daz Install Manager) you can then set the path(s) where you want to store things. Use that to install all your Daz Store content. You do need to tell Daz Studio to where to find this new library of assets that you have configured in DIM but when you first fire it up after installing things to a new location it should show a prompt asking if you want to add it, to which you can say yes.

  • Some scripts are not written to account for Connect isntalls, otherwise it is OK to use.

How are you instaling Daz Studio?

  • Richard, I was on the DAZ Central page, and thought I was downloading DS from there. I was wrong as DAZ Central was involved in that then.

I assume if I download DS through DIM I will have more control over where DS is located, and where my content is stored.

    Is that correct?

DIM will inherit the Daz Central settings (and vice versa) but yes, DIM allows paths for different purposes to be set independently. If you change the content location make sure you update it in DS too.
