SVG files

I recently acquired a model that included templates for each individual item, these files are all in SVG format and do not open in my graphic editor. I then assumed that the VG part stands for "Vector Graphic" so I tried to open one in HEX, but that failed as well. If necssary I can open an item in DS and then send the geometry to Hex. And from there I can create a template in a more friendly format, but i'd rather not go through all that for each itam. So, how can I convert the SVG files to JPG/BMP files?.

    "Scalable[sic] Vector Graphics".  It's PostScript by another name written in XML.  You can open the files in NotePad.  It's almost as useful as CGM.

     So, how can I convert the SVG files to JPG/BMP files?.  

    What I would do is open the file in a web browser (its a W3C created format), copy the whole thing and paste it an image processing application:

    Alas this does not work (definately not my fault).

    Pretty much support for SVG has been dropped, just like CGM.  Chrome can still display it but won't offer to copy it or even "open image in new tab"; so use a 4K monitor and screenshot it:

    NOTE for the moderators; this is a politcal comment and I live in the US, so I'm entitled to include a rendering of a copyright work and, anyway, there is no copyright anywhere I can see in the SVG file.  People who want to do more with SVG (100% count me out) can refer to the link in that file:

    If there is no copyright claim then there can be no license, so you can't do anything with the file. Lack of claim does not imply a free for all.

    Using http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/scripting/api_reference/object_index/image this script http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/scripting/api_reference/samples/general_ui/simple_image_dialog/start can show an image, including an SVG image.

    Software that can open SVG's and save them as a bitmap are Inkscape (free vector graphics editor), GIMP, Adobe Illustrator and I assume Photoshop & Affinity's programs.

    Thank you very muchly ! ! Opening the file in Chrome worked like a charm. Once opened in Chroome I used the snip tool in Windows to make  a screen shot that could be saved as rither a png or jpg file.

    Exactly; it would be illegal to publish the image I did under any circumstances except that I published it as part of a politcal rant and as a valid example of what I am ranting against.

    Politics is against the forum ToS anyway, though I don't see how your post is political.

    I believe they are useful for Cricut

    and for God only knows what reason I bought the Vector graphic exporter for Carrara,

    never used it blush

    Ah, but everything in SVG is smooth shaded so no chance of violating Tafi's ToS!

    not sure how relevent that is to this conversation though cheeky

    I don't own a cutting machine BTW just see a lot of crafts people have done on Facebook with them

    I started using Inkscape at work for .svg editing when we dropped Illustrator (Adobe also bought and then retired Macromedia Fireworks, which used to embed metadata into .png files so you could still edit them later).  I like Inkscape a lot actually.  It's also free!

    But the most important thing is that the PNG exports can have transparency.

    Do not use chrome and screen capture. Use Inkscape and export at the best settings you need, including transparency.
