    It you select the Geometry Editor amd open Tool Settings, you can rename surfaces there.

    Be aware that if you do that it's possible it can screw up several things that you will end up needing to fix

    To clarify on Frank0314's post, if you're working with pre-made content, material presets will no long work with the asset.

    If you're developing your own, the same will apply with any presets generated before the change.
