Ultra Scenery Toolbox One not working anymore?

I'm using it the same way as many times before but it doesn't remove the selected greenery.

Are you confused by the fact that the proxies are still displayed after deleting trees?

Edit: Oh, I was thinking of Volume II where you can actually delete instances. I guess I'm confused about how you are trying to "remove selected greenery" with volume 1. Do you mean the controls to hide or show all instances?

Anyway, both tooboxes still work fine for me.

This is what I mean. Top view with round marker. Terrain is Britain 2. Everything else default. Just for the heck of it I selected all the vegetaitions. There should be a big bald spot in the middle. Third pic is a spot render. Everthing is still there.

OK, now I know what you are talking about - masking! I'm rendering something else right now. Give me a little time to look at your screenshots and try it myself.

Thank you! I'm calling it a night but will check back tomorrow.

I don't see anything wrong in your screenshot of the mask setrtings. It looks like it should work. Does the mask show in in the UltraScene Build tab for the layers? Is there any chance you have two UltraScenes in your scene? Sometimes I accidently create a second one when I meant to rebuild the first.  You may be masking one, but the second one is unmasked.

The masking is working correctly for me in a Pacific Northwest scene I have open. It shouldn't matter what ecology you are using, but I'll try Britain 2 next

The masks work fine with Britain 2, also. My best theory is that you have 2 UltraScenes or you rebuilt after you applied the masks.

Tested it with brand new scene different environment, and to the same result–not working. I definitely didn't have two Ultrascenes. I'll try reinstalling either Ultrascenery or the Toolbox or both.

Do the masks show on the layers on the UltraScene Build tab?
Any error messages in the Daz Studio log file?

Britain 2 has 17 layers. You masked only 12 of them (if your screenshot is Britain 2). Birch trees are not masked, in that case. Is that what you are seeing in your render? I masked all 17 layers of Britain 2 and I have a bare spot where the mask is, as intended.
No, birch trees are layers 3 and 4. I got fooled by the ordering of the layers in the Mask Builder.

It's Sunday and I refuse to do anything other than loafing around, so further testing is postponed until Monday. But I noticed one weird thing last time and took a screenshot of it. When I do the thing at the last tab, before hitting Rebuild, the icons show up huge. And come to think of it, the masks don't sho up either. So I'm sure that's where the problem is, but no clue what is causing it.

Hallelujah! Un- and re-installing the toolbox solved the issue.

Lesson learned: when in doubt, reinstall!

That's bizarre, but we'll go with it!
I can't see your image attachment. Did you delete it after uploading it? Doesn't matter, though, you've solved the problem. yes

  • I know this thread is a little more than two months old, but I struggled with the same issue, and I wanted to share my solution. Uninstalling and reinstalling didn't work for me.  And it was just a few instances that were popping up in areas that were supposed to be masked black (no instances at all).

What I did to solve the problem (putting this out there in case anyone else stumbles across this thread) was I had to load the mask file that ToolBox One created into Photoshop and make sure all of the black area were actually true black and not just a really, really dark, dark gray.  When I did this, I no longer had stray instances popping up inside of my buildings.

P.S. - Sorry for the random camera and camera light in the render image.  I didn't want to finish setting up my scene until I solved the problem of the random botanical items in my ballroom.

  • I had a similar issue, but I finally figured it out.  Came across this thread while I was trying to troubleshoot, and I thought I'd post what I learned in case it helps other.

In my scenario, random plants were popping up in areas that I had masked black (meaning no instances were supposed to appear at all).  See the sample screenshot (sorry for the random camera and camera light, but I wasn't going to work on my scene any further until I could solve the problem of the randomly appearing plants in my ballroom).

My mask was correctly applied to all the layers (see second screenshot), so it was increadibly frustrating.

What I had to end up doing was opening the mask file that was creatred by Toolbox One into Photoshop and going over all of the black areas to make sure they were REALLY pure black.  I'm guessing that maybe they were actually just a dark, dark gray and so Ultra Scenery was still plopping down vegetation in that area (although more scarce than elsewhere).  After ensuring the black was really black, all plants disappeared from my ballroom.

Thanks for adding that observation about the dark vs. black.

It happens to me every once in a while that a tree pops up in a masked area, usually after I've been fussing with the scene for a while. What works is that I duplicate the mask prop and apply the same masks as the original.
