Globaly Turn Off Smoothing?

Is it possible to globally turn off smoothing?  As in, just disable the function so while you're posing etc you don't have to wait for all the different things to smooth?

  • I don't believe so, i did a quick check in the preferences and I don't see anything for that. What you can do is select all items in the scene and turn off smoothing at once.

But maybe someone will know if there is a method to do it globally, but I would think it would be in preferences if that was the case.

    Thanks.

Yeah, I was hoping for a less shotgun method so that if there's things with smothing already turned off, they don't turn on when you eventually turn the function back on. Oh well.

That's smooth shading - I thought the question was about the Smoothing Modifier. I do have a script to suspend smoothing on all selected items and turn it back on only on those selected items that had it initially, though I don't think I've used it for a while so caveat downloader https://www.dropbox.com/s/bwgw8ckbk46ysif/ToggleSmoothing.zip?dl=0

I saw the OP wrote smoothing and that's the only one I knew about when I need sharp edges if they were not defined in the model.

What is the smoothing modifier and how is it different if you don't mind me asking?

Smoothing modifier is used on clothing.  In conjunction with the collisions it is what allows minor pokethrough to be fixed, clothing to fit better and slight deformations (like a cushion to show the deformation of something sitting on it).

It helps clothes fit the figure mostly. it can also be used to collide other objects into a target. This helps fix pokethrough. Can also be used to minor success to squish in a cushion if someon is sitting on it. Most Genesis or later clothing use this feature.
