Not a BUG - Daz Studio Loads Slowly
![JigSaw73](https://farnsworth-prod.uc.r.appspot.com/forums/uploads/userpics/547/nC14UWYYSY8LX.png)
So for the last 2 weeks or so, my Daz Studio 4.8 Pro on my desktop loads slowly. It also takes a long time to SAVE a file. Where:
on my Desktop - Open a file, takes 12 to 15 mins - save that file - takes 12 -15 mins.
on my Laptop - Open that same file, takes 20 - 30 secs - save that same file - takes 45 - 50 secs.
File is being opened and closed from the same location (the desktop - laptop is networked to the shared drive).
Anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Like I said, it just started happening. I installed the latest Nvidia drivers to my desktop and tried uninstalling and reinstalling Daz Studio on my Desktop using the DIM last weekend. Is there a way to do a completely FRESH install of Daz Studio? ...or is that what I did through the DIM?
Any and all help is appreciated. Thank you.

Have you tested the connection between the desktop and the shared drive? It could be a network problem rather than DAZ Studio.
Actually, the Laptop accesses the drive over the network. The shared drive is a 2TB portable (flash) drive that is connected to the Desktop. I would've thought a network connection problem would make the laptop load slower, not the desktop that it is directly connected to, you know?
Does that make sense? Do you have any suggestions for testing the connection? The drive is not networked to the desktop...Regardless, I can try and test it (I'll Google and see how it's done). The drive is fine with everything else though, if that helps.
Of course, the drive works fine over the network with the laptop as well (as stated above). Thanks for the quick reply!
Operating System and path to the content?
It's Win10 Home.
The path doesn't seem to have any relevance - it can be any scene file, old-or-new, in any folder on any drive of the PC and it will open suprisingly slow, you know?
Two weeks ago I opened up the scene I'm currently working on, went to "Save" and it took about 15mins. Ever since then, on my Desktop, everything opens slower and saves slower. Same exact scene files, when accessed from my laptop still open, save and close rather quickly - as in, normally. I'm not experiencing anything unusual on my PC (besides this) and all apps, including Daz Studio function normally (besides this open/close issue).
...and it just started on it's own...up until 2 weeks ago, it worked perfectly normal.
AV/Security software?
I thought you meant both computers accessed it over the network. Is it a USB external drive? Have you tried plugging it into another port?
Yes, it's a USB External 2TB flash drive. I did move it to a different port - same results. I tried adding Daz Studio as an exception to Windows Defender to see if that would help, but it didn't. I'm going to try turning Windows Defender off and see if that gives me any different results.
Just SO very strange that it is only Daz Studio files and nothing else, you know?
Thanks.
DS files have a tremendous amount of dependency on referencing other files that are required for the scene to appear, they are not inclusive repositories of all the needed data (geometries, textures, etc.) and are you saying you have a 2TB flash drive or do you have a flash drive an SSD or some other external drive and if so what is the make/model/connection type and when is the last time you defragged it?
Is all your data spread out over multiple devices? Do you have textures on one drive, data on another, etc?
If you work on an internal drive does it behave the same way?
The drive is only a few months old. Everything works fine (and I mean EVERYTHING) except for opening and closing files in Daz Studio...and this just started.
All the data is on the same drive.
It behaves the same no matter where the file is (regardless of drive or folder/subfolder).
Again, what is really puzzling is that the same files work fine from the laptop - which is accessing them over the network...so that is weird.
Does anyone know how to do a completely fresh install of Daz Studio? I wouldn't mind trying that.
It sounds like security software scanning each file as it is accessed.
Still puzzling. I'm trying to figure it out and I'll keep you updated. Another weird thing is that I keep all my original, created content and my saved subset from DS on that same drive (same folder too...) and it still loads and saves just as quickly as it always has.
Sorry for the double-post but I have more info:
To add to the mystery... This morning I downloaded and installed Daz Studio Pro 4.8 Public Beta to see if it would act the same. It doe NOT.
This further isolates my install of Daz Studio on this machine. The public Beta opens normally and a file that took about 12 mins to save last night on my regular install, took under a minute to save just now using the public Beta release.
I'm going to try and do a complete uninstall of my Daz Studio app and a fresh reinstall later this afternoon. Something isn't right...
I'm curious if you every found a solution to this... My Daz has suddenly started doing the same thing... way too long to open and close scenes or add people (a no morph no skin genesis base took 5 minutes to load), and I'm getting the (Not responding) pause more often too. The only things I can think of is that I just updated my spyware scanner, and it might have changed something.
Hi. No solution yet. I just spent the last 4 hours working on an animation but my saves still take about 12 mins each and every time. I just adapted my workflow to save less often and take a break while DS saves the file. I rarely ever get a crash or freeze in DS so it's not very risky for me to work longer between saves.
The Daz Studio 4.8 Beta works just fine on the same machine though so you might give that a try. Otherwise I'll update this thread if I find a solution. Thanks
Well.. When I have such strange issues with a "normal" version of Daz and that I don't have it with a "public" version, what I do in general is :
backup "user (you) /application data/ roaming/daz studio/daz studio 4" folder (zip and save elsewhere), then delete this folder (daz studio 4 one), and restart daz studio. It sorts of "clean" a bit DS. If it does not solve the issue, I reput the back up folder at its original place. If it solves it, I re add some of the previous files because I customised it a lot. This is probably not the solution, this is not an advice, this is just for letting you know, but it helped me a couple of times.
