How to use opacity with the timeline

for example the geometry is at 100 percent opacity on first frame -  zero opacity on frame 15 - 100 opacity on last frame

Shader settings aren't animatable by default. There's a script you can use to enable animation, or you could use ABAS or TexAnim.

You can use thse scripts to link the opacity to a proerpty on a node, and that can be aniamted http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/scripting/api_reference/samples/start#post-load_data_items

    Holy smokes, really?

    So, for example:

    • Post-Load Material Proxy Create - A script that creates proxy properties on a node for a given set of properties on a surface and links the properties on the surface to the corresponding properties on the node, so that the surface properties can be animated. The script also embeds post-load data on the node which causes a script to be executed after that node has been loaded into the scene in order to re-establish the links between the properties which are not otherwise saved.

This is a script that I can fire from the Scripts spot and, what... I'd select something, run the script and it would wrap it in a node that I can change over time?

    Do you know?

    Thanks Richard!!!

Also, I bought ABAS and it's great! If it takes time to get used to the process, just stick with it. Like anything else, it gets to be second nature. Great product!

Cool, so I've never scripted for DS (or much of anything, actually), but I'm imagining (and remembering from seeing stuff on the interface) that I can launch something to paste this script into and save it as something that fires? This might be something fun to learn!

Can't check right now. As always... I'm online because Iray is busy! ;)

EDIT - Okay, so this is deep!!!

I'll maybe check back into scripting another time. Too busy animating, simulating, rendering, etc., etc., to dig into this, but... Wow!!! Very Cool Stuff!!! The top of that page spells it out pretty good.
