Puzzling product update to sku::89858 (Updo of Fantasy Hair for Genesis 8 and 9)
This morning I purchase the above product and it came as two .zip files:
05/11/2023 10:23 AM 310,680,689 IM00089858-02_UpdoofFantasyHairforGenesis902of02.zip
(Those times are PDT or PST, whichever it is now.) The names clearly don't follow the conventions but everything seemed to install fine and the package IDs correspond to the names. A short time ago I noticed a "product update", downloaded it and got this:
So there is now no part x of y bit in the name and the package is about the same size as "2of2" even though the package ID is "1". The Manifest.dsx in 02of02 is indentical to the one in the update. The Content directories are, however, somewhat different (around 2000 lines changed across all the files). Out of an abundance of caution i deinstalled the old product (both parts) before installing the update. After the "deinstall" (and download of the update) I had two .zips to install:
IM00089858-02_UpdoofFantasyHairforGenesis902of02.zip
So, given that Manifest.dsx is identical for those two .zip archives, it looks like I have two package files installing identical files. I installed both from DIM, so the net effect of the update seems to have been to delete the first (1of2) part of the product. I checked what was in 1of2 (i.e. the effectively deleted part 1 of the package) and it seems that this contained the G8 morphs/support.
This looks horribly wrong. It looks like the "update" was meant to be to part 2of2, not 1 and a diff of the "installed files..." obtained from DIM says the two packages are installing the same files. The hair is in "Smart Content" for a Genesis 9, I applied the Bling hair to a G9 and it looks correct. I tried the same with a Genesis 8 Female and there doesn't seem to be anything in SmartContent (though I admit lots of products don't appear in SmartContent for me) and I looked in the actual "Content Library" product folder; there are 15 Hairs in there but they are all for Genesis 9 (according to the name).
Obviously this won't happen to people who just install the update; it just double-installs the G9 stuff and, so far as I can see, obliterates the G8 support from the manifests, but if someone tries to rebuild from scratch I think there won't be any G8 support, but it should happen to new purchases of the product, unless I'm missing something.
Comments
The 20230512 update reverts the previous change and fixes the missing G8 hair (though the smart content isn't there).
