adding a background to a scene

I'm currently using DS 4.8, which was upgraded from the 4.6 version. When using 4.6, there was the ability to add a background image to a scene via the "Edit" menu. However I no longer see that in Edit with 4.8. Does anyone  know how I can one again specify a background image other than putting it on a plane?

    In the Environment pane, choose Type: Backdrop, and select a file.
