Best remote desktop software for DAZ?

The thought of being able to work on DAZ from anywhere is truly exciting, though googling this forum gave only a few threads about it. One said that Splashtop and Parsec are good for DAZ although the former has some bugs with regard to viewport control. That thread was in 2020 though, so I wonder if things have gotten more sophisticated and that there's anyone here using a remote software for a truly seamless experience without any compromise in functionality and graphics? Hoping to hear good things!

I use teamviewer when I'm on a trip. It's free for personal use. I do my work on my laptop that can't really render anything, dropbox the file to my computer at home, and then I control my main computer at home to open the file and render it. Then if I'm out and about, I can use my phone to log into my computer through the teamviewer app and start a new render or whatever I need to do.

Splashtop is good between PC and an Android tablet.

...but generally I've switched to Google Desktop for all my remote control needs.

EDIT: It's actually called "Chrome Remote Desktop".

That's what I was thinking but there are multiple problems I foresee. I usually preview render a scene before rendering, so that I can detect mistakes and make adjustments before the full render. After a render, there still are errors sometimes to fix. Using the method you wrote, there'd have to be multiple scene amending, scene saving and dropboxing to the remote desktop for rendering. The advantage of your method is that scene creation and editing is seamless since it isn't from a remote desktop but the laptop in front of you (so no remote bugs), but yeah, its time consuming because of the back-and-forth with the remote desktop.

Does Chrome Remote Desktop work seamlessly with DAZ? Any bugs and errors? I heard that using a remote application would also slow down renders because a huge chunk of GPU is used for the remote software, is this true?

I don't remember any slow downs. The load on the remote machine is basically like having the chrome browser open while using Studio.

I have not tried it in a while so I can't be sure about the latest versions of Windows/Studio. ...I might try it later today, I'm still having breakfast! smiley

I tested Chrome Remote Desktop myself at an internet cafe. There was noticeable lag in the clicks and controls, and the viewport is definitely unusable because it can't seem to understand the click and rotate functions done with a mouse. Even if that were resolved, the lag means that it's difficult to adjust colors and all in Photoshop. So this definitely means that a laptop for scene creation and post-render work is needed. The function of the remote desktop is simply for rendering and thankfuklly there was no slowing down in render times.

Just tried it and get the same mouse lag! ...also the colour is slightly off.

The colours were fine for me. I'm going to give Parsec a go, I've read that it's very fast and works almost or if not seamlessly.

Well, luckily teamviewer is free, so give it a try and maybe what you need it for will work just fine working completely remote. I animate, so I'm doing a lot of moving around in the viewport, but maybe for your purposes, it'll be smooth as silk. Worth a shot.

Do you mean that you use TeamViewer to access DAZ remotely and the viewport controls work without any problems?

Yeah, you can fully use daz remotely with teamviewer, it works perfectly fine. There are one or two hiccups that might not even be an issue for you regarding rotating the viewport depending on what you're doing, but you can completely use daz with teamviewer as if you were sitting at home in front of your computer.

I finally got on teamviewer on my android phone. Rotating and panning the viewport are pretty ok though they need time to get used to, but it's the zooming through the mouse's scroll wheel that's frustrating. Just a slight scroll and the viewport zooms out into outer space or too 'in' like a microscope. I had to purposely move the scroll wheel infinitesimally. Might there be any fixes for this?
