Problems installing DS 4.21 on new computer

I recently upgraded my computer and am having an incredible amount of difficulty installing Ds 4.21 without error.

I downloaded the most recent DIM, and installed DAZ Studio 4.21.  When I launch it, it appears to load an older version (4.8).

So then I used uninstaller program called Revo Uninstaller and tried to remove everything from the registry, and then tried again. Same thing.

After that, I tried to run the DAZStudio_4.21.0.5_Win64.exe installer, which was downloaded separately.  It hangs at the end when trying to install the content management database. I've let it sit there for over a half hour before cancelling it, and it just completely uninstalls everything to that point.

Running Windows 11 latest build, with RTX 4070 video card and latest drivers. Using Windows Defender for virus stuff.

Any advice? I have no idea why this is happening.

Here's the version that opens after I click the Launch button from DIM:

    This doesn't make sense 8-(

Pls try to check: RMB click on the line item of DAZ Studio 4.21 in DIM - Show Installed Files, go to the application folder and check the properties of DAZStudio.exe, see if its version is 4.21.0.5 ... If it is the right version but still opening 4.8, I suppose it might be a little bug... How about launching DS thru the shortcut on the desktop ?

If the old version was installed stand-alone to a custom path it is quote possible that DIM is not seeing it, and so cannot remove it. If that version is already the target of shortcuts and the application associated with native files then that is what you will get. What happens if you open the WIndows logo menu ("Start") and select All application then go to the Daz 3D folder - do you have a shortcut for 4.21, and does it work?

No dice. Both DIM and DAZ Central (which I just tried as well) appear to be installing version 4.8 when you try to install 4.21.

Other things of note: No start menu item is created, and no taskbar icon either. So something is definitely amiss with the installers.

No the older version wasn't INTENTIONALLY installed. In all cases, I tried to install DS 4.21 directly from DIM (and then later, DAZ Central). It seems to be picking up 4.8 all on its own.

I don't have a 4.8 installer on this computer at all. The only ones I have are:

    DAZStudio_4.21.0.5_Win64.exe
    DazCentral_1.5.0.20_Win64.exe
    DAZ3DIM_1.4.1.22_Win64.exe

Weird... how was a verion of 4.8 installed... Installed size is not correct either (should be 1GB other than 472MB).  Pls check the IM package info in DIM (package dated Oct.12, 2022). Then try to uninstall it in DIM, see if DS application folder / files in 'C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4' are gone or not... And also check the log in DIM as well...

OK. I clicked Uninstall, and it was removed. Although there are still some directories remaining behind in folders named cms, docs, plugins, and resources.

So I go back into DIM and see DS 4.21 in the "Ready to install" tab. Date of file is 10/12/2022, size is 239.2 MB (is that right?)

I click Install, and the DAZStudio.exe file that gets installed to the DAZStudio4 folder is the same that I screencapped above.

I'm fresh out of ideas. I've completely removed everything several times and honestly can't figure out why DIM is picking up and installing 4.8, when it doesn't even exist on my computer.

The file size of the DAZStudio_4.21.0.5_Win64.exe installer is 534,382 KB, and dated 5/11/2023 which I believe is when I downloaded it.  Does that sound right?  I did try to install by running that, but as I said in my first post it hangs at the end when it's trying to install the CMS. I let it hang for a half hour before giving up.

You know, I am starting to wonder if this somehow relates to my changing my username. I'm going to change it back to Deecey and see what happens.

    Nope no difference.

Might as well leave it set to my old Deecey name just in case though. I'm going to give a complete uninstall another try and see if I have any more luck. 8-(

The IM package size is not right which should be 497MB... standalone EXE installation file size is correct. Pls still uninstall it.. and Delete Package(s) from Ready to Intall tab. Go to Advance Settings of DIM, Manifest Archive folder - Search ‘IM00013176-02’, delete dsx file if there's any... Then redownload IM package, check the file size and reinstall...

Yea, if you changed the Windows user name, you have to reinstall PostgreSQL cms as the cluster directory locates in your user-name folder...

OK. I completely uninstalled ANYTHING DAZ related from my C drive. Unfortunately that also included any info to all the DAZ content I installed LOL

When I opened up DIM, it had a popup of files that should be installed for DAZ Studio (the app, postgre, some essential content, etc). So I just let that do its thing.

YAY, 4.21 is up and running.

So it may have had something to do with the username change, or maybe I just didn't delete enough straggling files previously.  But it looks like it's working now. Probably couldn't have done it without your suggestions, so thanks! LOL

Now all I have to do is figure out how to install the Genesis 8 to 9 clothing scripts LOL
