  • Edited your post so the link goes to the store page, not the Product Library page (which won't work for people who have not purchased).

    The brushes will be installed to your brush library, assuming you use the Install manager and have told it about your copy of PS. I'm not sure where the Ilustrator files will go, but you can check the isntalled files list in DIM by clicking the arrow to the right of the item's entry in the Installed tab.

    The Brushes can be loaded by opening the Brush Presets panel and clicking the option menu - lined button in the top corner - and selecting Load Brushes or Replace Brushes then selecting the brush set you want. Once loaded you can pick your brush from the Presets list or the inset panel in the Brush panel and paint with it using the current colour - a common trick is to paint not directly to the canvas but to a mask, then use that to modify or fill an area of the image.

    It might be easier to manually download the files to the place where you keep your resources. I have TONS of various resources for all kinds of projects so I keep everything separate based on application, function, and theme; if you plan on growing you should start thinking about an organizational system that you can expand on, but if you don't have many PS brushes yet you can just put the .abr file in the Brushes folder under Program Files. If you use multiple versions you can add them to both folders or keep everything in one place and set each version to read from the same directory

    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2014\Presets\Brushes

    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit)\Presets\Brushes

    Here's Adobe's official resource on brushes:

    Is there any reason to download the CS5 brushes if I've got CS6 installed?

    (My assumption would be, "no," but I just want to make sure before I "hide" the file in DIM.)

    @L'Adair

    Your assumption would be correct. You should not need the CS5 versions.

    Anyone know how to use it with GIMP? I've avoided these products before because I don't have Photoshop and the price point is a touch high for simple images.
  • The abr files work in Gimp, I only have a few myself, the water ones, but have heard adding too many grinds it to a halt so something to consider.

    You need to manually install them.   There are two locations in GIMP they can be installed to...one in your user profile and one in the 'system/public' profile.  If you put them in your profile, then only you can use them...

    And yes, too many brushes, in general will slow the loading of GIMP down.  Not the performance of it once loaded, but the load time will increase. But GIMP can load brushes while in use...so you could place them in a folder outside the GIMP search path and browse/load (then refresh the brushes toolbox).

    That's a thought.

    Maybe I'll pick up one the next time they are on sale and see how well I can make use of them.

    Ron used to have a sample pack available...

    But GIMP can use a large percentage of Photoshop brushes, these days.
