stop from casting shadows

THere used to be a way to make something not cast shadows. Is that still possible? I want a mesh light to work but not cast a shadow.

I'd say this depends on what you're using that mesh light for. Are you wanting to add additional lights to a character or prop, independent of the scene lighting? Then yes is the answer. You can use that light without casting shadows but it involves doing 2 renders, using Iray canvasses and combining them in Photoshop or your equivalent.  If you're trying to use that mesh light as the lighting for an entire scene then no - you can't turn off shadows in this scenario.

If you would like to be more specific about the scene you're trying to render and the shadows you don't want to cast I might be able to help, as long as you're not using that mesh light as some kind of global illumination.
