Iray Canvas

There is 'Depth' and 'Distance' as two options for Iray Canvasses.

It saves .exr files... anyone know if there is a way to get it to save in another format? Also, as far as I can tell (I have some basic .exr readers), the canvas file appears to be blank. But I don't know if my reader is working right.

EXR files are 32-bits, so they may appear black when viewed in an 8-bit photo application, and/or when viewed in Photoshop or other 32-bit capable application but are not yet tone mapped. In Photoshop you need to adjust the HDR Toning in order to see the detail.

Ah well. I returned Photoshop, of course. Thankfully I have AoA depth camera, at least.

Did you try a Google search for .exr tone mappers?

    This is free.

I have no idea how good they are though smiley

Thanks, Fishtales, but I can't make heads or tails how to use exrtools. Ah well.

    But Luminance HDR works nicely!

Eeexcept it appears the Depth and Distance canvasses write in some non-RGB format it won't read.

    sigh

  • Also have a look at Fusion and AutoDesk Compositor, which will I think open .exr files (they are not just image editors, but can be used for that along the way as I understand it). There's also, for non-commercial work, a free version of Nuke.
