.duf file does not exist

Could someone please help me figure this out?

I've done a clean install of Daz3D today using the Installation Manager.  This includes my purchased character TMA Kaya G9.  When I try to add the character to a scene I get a Resource Error stating: Could not open file : /People/Genesis 9/Characters/TMA Kaya G9.duf   File does not exist.

Now, I have set my DIM to point to a network drive.  All thumbnails (including the one for TMA Kaya) load and all the other figures in my library work fine.  I've uninstalled, deleted, re-downloaded and re-installed the package using DIM.  I can SEE the .duf file in my library in the specified folder.  Since the error message isn't very explicit about WHERE it wants that file (as in, which drive - because for whatever weird reason you can't move EVERYTHING to a network drive?) I've even done a system-wide search for all folders titled "Genesis 9" wondering if there's an old one on the C: drive or something.

Ugh, sorry if my tone is not the friendliest :( I'm just so frustrated!  I will be eternally grateful to anyone who can help me with this.

Help>Troubleshooting>View Log File may be more informative, but I think DS does not (fully) support network paths - having a alias so it looks like a local path might work better, if you are not already doing that.

  • Richard,

Thank you so much for responding, I really appreciate it.  I misspoke when I said network, sorry - it's a local drive.  I meant to say "non C: drive".  I've attached the most current log if you'd care to take a look.  It looks like there are some render system errors (but I think I recall from the tutorial that the Iray is the most ..universal?... and that other render settings may not work so maybe the warnings are accurate but not catastrophic?)

But yeah, the program seems to work fine for all other purposes and models, it's just this one.  And it's odd to me that the error "Could not open file : /People/Genesis 9/Characters/TMA Kaya G9.duf " doesn't specify a full path including the drive letter like the other lines in the log do.

I just ran a test where i re-opened Daz3d and loaded the model "Genesis" and it loaded fine and in the log it says "Finished asset load (open): 0m 0.446s - /People/Genesis/Genesis.duf" So I guess it just consistently doesn't state the full file path for characters/models?

The log didn't attach - we seem to be having issues, on and off, with attachments. Please try using an external host 9e.g. onewDricve, Google Drive, DropBox etc.) and posting a link.

/People/Genesis 9/Characters/TMA Kaya G9.duf is a relative path - DS will try adding that to each content directory you have set until it finds the file or runs out of directories. If the installation has somehow ended up with an extra folder then that can cause the issue. So can having a Connect install (through Daz Studio) that is no longer there, or failed to decrypt properly, even if the DIM/Daz Central/Manual install is there.

  • Ah, ok sure.  Here's the link to the log file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1u9BdSCnCwBTtY-0hx7aTpbPBavtK4376/view?usp=sharing

In DS my directories in Edit > preferences > Content > Content Directory Manager is the following

    CMS Cluster Directory: C:/users/(my win account)/AppData/Roaming/DAZ 3D/cms
Daz Connect Data: C:/users/(my win account)/Documents/DAZ 3D/Studio/My Daz Connect Library
Daz Studio Formats: G:/My DAZ 3D Library
(and Poser and Other Import folders are pointed to the same G:/ location)

Where exactly are the loca cop(ies) of that file?

  • Doing a full scan of my drives shows that TMA Kaya G9.duf exists only in G:\My DAZ 3D Library\People\Genesis 9\Characters

If you find Kaya in the Products tab of Smart Content and, without opening it to see the files, right-click is there an uninstall option? If so select it and see if the character will then load without error.

  • That did it! Richard you're a genius, thank you :)

Just for clarity's sake (for anyone in the future who might find this thread) it wasn't in the Products tab of Smart Content (I didn't have a Products tab there) it was in the Content Library tab.  But doing exactly what you said got it working after a fresh install that way.  Might be good to know if for some reason in the future the Install Manager gets weird again.

So happy, again - thank you!
